I really want to go to Hollywood for my senior trip. Instead of the normal group of teens going off and getting wasted every night, my mom said she would take me wherever. I want to go to los angeles but I didnt know if it was worth it. Is there lots of stuff to do? Do I have a good chance of meeting some known people?

First of all Hollywood is a little seedy and has a few sites to see like the Hollywood Walk of fame. A trip to Farmer's Market would be fun. Check you guide book to go to the thing you like to do. You are not likely to see "known" people. It is bes to just enjoy the city.

Hollywood is not what you are expecting at all. The dreams of seeing movie stars walking around everywhere and the streets paved with gold is NOT what you will find in today's Hollywood. You would not run into any well known people there for certain.

"Hollyweird" is tacky, seedy in spots but unique. It is where it all began, not where it lives today. I have taken many tour groups from overseas on tours throughout Los Angeles and Hollywood seems to disappoint a lot of people. It was just not the wonderful place they were expecting it to be. It was in it's day but that is not today's Hollywood.

There are some very nice areas, basically residential in the hills of Hollywood though.

Remember there is also North Hollywood and West Hollywood. West Hollywood or WeHo as it is referred to is a large gay community.

Now that does not mean that you should not come to Southern California. There is so much to see and do here! The weather is great, the beaches are wonderful and the people are diverse indeed.

A visit here is not complete without seeing Hollywood though. Just go in the daytime!

There is a lot of interesting and historic things to see in Hollywood though. You can spend a lot of time exploring the area.

Above all, form your own opinion. Some people love that honky tonk sleazy place! Others are astonished that it is what it is.

To see some well known people try other places besides Hollywood. You might also try and get tickets to some TV shows while you are here than you will see celebrities for sure. Some shows film in the area and you can get a listing of where and what shows and watch your favorite show actually being filmed. You'd be surprised, it might take the magic out of it for you though.

I have a lot of TV and movies shot in my neighborhood and area. One that might surprise you is CSI: Miami is shot mainly in Long Beach. On my street alone they have shot Joan of Arcadia, Garfield 1 and 2, Daybreak and now a new show called Heartland. Check out some of the filming schedules and locations and you might find that something interesting.

Just do not spend your entire vacation in Hollywood...promise!!!

Finally, taking your Senior Trip with you Mom is wonderful. Have a fantastic time together and someday you will be so happy that you have wonderful memories of times you spent together.

Let Mom decide some of the things that SHE wants to do as well. LOL

Have a wonderful time!

Hollywood is fun in the day if you want to walk around and do a little shopping and see the names of stars on the floor....but the magic happens at night! theres so many clubs to go to and thats where you might run into some stars, heck, look at all those pics they take of nicole richie, paris hilton, lindsey lohan, they were all at clubs in hollywood.....but theres not a 100% guarantee that youll run into a star but hey you never know.....seriously though hollywood is fun for only a day or so, theres WAYYY more to do around the hollywood area, we have a ton of amusement parks, like knotts berry farm, raging waters, magic mountain (the best), disneyland, downtown disney, hurricane harbor, knotts soak city, or theres the santa monica pierre, or cruisin PCH (pacific coast highway)....theres alot to do, look into it, have fun!

So glad you asked this question. I've lived in California all my life, and I'll tell you one thing: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME IN HOLLYWOOD! I'm so sorry to be a party pooper here, but I went to Hollywood and it was such a waste of my time. There's this area in Hollywood which is like the "death and murder" "emo" area and it scared the living sh** out of me and my friends. When we were walking the Hollywood Walk of Fame, there was absolutely NO ONE famous there, which was such a disappointment, because my uncle said he saw celebs walking the streets of Hollywood everyday -- so wrong. I didn't see anyone there!

I think you have a great point in going somewhere safe and taking precautions in not getting wasted like most teens, but Hollywood is not a good place in California to go to. You could try San Diego. That's a great place, the weather's good and there's a ton of things to do! That's my recommendation. I'm sorry if I'm really against Hollywood, but it really is a waste of time.

I hoped I helped! Good luck and have fun wherever you go!!

No, Hollywood is not fun. Years ago it was a lot of fun, but, not now. It's a city like any other city, except with prostitutes and drug dealers on every block.

Hollywood, has always been full of drug dealers and prostitutes and panhandlers.

What do you mean, "Stuff to do?"

You can go to Disney Land, which I think is much better than Disney World.

You can go to the Farmer's Market and buy delicious fruit.

You can go to the Ocean. Santa Monica is a good day trip and you see the ocean.

If you want to see celebrities, you have to come to NYC.

Well when I went there I thought Hollywood was dirty. Rodeo drive was okay, but there are just as nice places in the city where I live. I didn't find any celebrities but I did spot mostly tourists like myself. I still liked it, though. The weather was beautiful.

There's an entire website about seeing stars in Hollywood (and Hollywood in general), kind of a visitors guide: http://www.seeing-stars.com

Among other things, it lists a zillion locations around L.A. where movies and TV shows were filmed ( http://www.seeing-stars.com/Locations ) and has a calendar of upcoming events (like movie premieres) where stars are scheduled to appear in person: http://www.seeing-stars.com/Calendar
