THE FAITH is the Faith that Jesus Christ had when he died on the cross for our sins. Jesus Christ had faith in God the Father and that God will keep his promise to redeem mankind of our sins. Our faith is miniscule compared to the Faith of Jesus Christ. It is His faith that saves us. As a Christian we have only accepted this free gift of salvation and we should be willing to do whatever Jesus Christ has us to do. Our purpose is to serve Christ.

Faith is a choice to accept as true that for which there is no evidence.

Some fundies think that they can support their beliefs with evidence. They fail to understand that if you do that you are not exercising actual faith.

If you have faith it requires that you have been given grace by God. Augustine and Jerome insisted that the only way you can acquire grace is by God's gift.

Pelagius was kicked out of orthodox Christianity because he taught that you already have within yourself the ability to acquire grace so your spiritual life is a do-it-yourself job and the organized church is not necessary.

Personally I agree with Pelagius. I think Christianity missed its chance and lost its way when it wouldn't listen to Pelagius.

Many soldiers in the Legions thought Pelagianism was pretty cool. This alarmed the bishops who controlled the church. If people learned that they could grow in grace with the resources they already possessed within themselves, they would be less dependent on the official church, which is bad news for the hierarchy.

But Pelagius said - if we were told "be ye perfect," then this must have been a possibility otherwise the command would make no sense.

Pelagianism was declared a heresy, and the troops of Germanus were sent to exterminate it by the sword.

But it keeps reappearing, and in our time the Humanists are the modern Pelagians, and so they are scary to the advocates of keeping humanity subjugated and dependent on preachers to keep them in line.

So human autonomy is feared by fundie leaders.

And it is the acquisition of grace that makes faith possible.

But as to faith having "meaning" and "purpose", that's another matter. I'm not sure that faith needs them. Or should.

Faith is today what it always has been... the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen.

Everyone moves on at least a little faith, whether or not it's on God. We work in hopes that we will be able to provide for ourselves tomorrow, next week, 30 yrs from now. We do not KNOW we will, there is a chance we wont, but it's the faith that we might, that moves us. People of religious faith tend to also extend it to things that are "highly unlikely" also.

Faith in today's world is the same as it has always been, spreading the gospel of Jesus. This however does not mean judgement cramming religion down people's throat. It simply means to love one another, help the sick and the poor, and ..."love thy neighbor as thyself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

The Bible talks about having faith as a mustard seed; it is the smallest seed around, tyet when it grows, it becomes a mighty tree.

Faith is for growing into God's design for you, especially and in the face of the opposition from the World.

We are given faith so that we can give God the glory which is His in our words and deeds.
