Here is a clue,the dealer had to install it for you,cause it never came factory in any car...........

I did'nt say it had to be a stock engine,I said the engine with the most horse power available from Ford at that time.

sohc427 rated at 425hp
i stand corrected it was rated at 658 hp
i just looked it up
real #'s show it to have been around 800

the single over head cam 427 bows to no other
i can't wait to see your thoughts...

In the 1960's Ford built a variety of big-block engines.
390, 406, 426, 427, 428, 429, and 430 cubic inch engines.
The high performance 428 and 429's were rated at the highest horsepower output, generally one horsepower per cubic inch of engine displacement.
(406's were used in 1963/64, and the 430's were used in the big Lincolns and Thunderbirds.)

there were several overthecounter race engines, but the advertised HP was low, and once they were tuned at the track put out much more, like from 600 to 800! 427 SOHC, 427 SIDEOILER, BOSS 429 and there was even a DOHC INDY engine, now which one are you thinking of?

641/2 427/425 HP was the most powerful engine available that was stock.

1967 427 dual quad, conservatively rated at 425 hp.

they ran a gas turbine in some Indy cars..
probably over 1000 hp
