It is part of New York City. It's actually an Island with bridges and tunnels connecting it to the other boroughs and New Jersey. It is one of the 5 boroughs that make up New York City. But New Yorkers usually dont say " I live in Manhattan" they say " I live in the City" The other boroughs that make up NYC are... The Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Queens.

when people refer to nyc, they also usually mean manhattan though it is not technically JUST manhattan lol

but in mail, manhattan is written as ny,ny
