I'm really shooting for lean muscle and endurance more than anything. Been doing a 5 days on, 2 days off routine with cardio and weight lifting/resistance training each of those five days. So far I haven't had any problems, yet I hear that a lot of people say you aren't supposed to do both at the same time.

Any thoughts?

Even trainers have told me that cardio before weightlifting (in the same day) helps you get a better workout out of your lifting portion. You heartrate is up, the blood is pumping, and it helps prevent injury to cold muscles. Also, if you are trying to tone and gain lean muscle, cardio is the way to go- do it everyday even if you don't lift that day. Good luck!

Not true. I used to do cardio first. I did between 15 and 30 minutes of cardio. Then weights. This helps you burn fat while you work out. Don't over do the cardio because you will burn muscle. Doing it in reverse is not effective. It tires you out.
Of course now a days I am just a fat f**k and I eat fancy foods wine and dine. But I did go from 210 to 165 of lean muscle mass. I had a 10% fat to muscle ratio and a 31 inch waist. Then I got into cycling. I kept the weight off for years.
I think I will get off the computer now and go start working out.

Stacatori is correct. I worked with a personal trainer for 8 weeks and he always wanted me to do cardio prior to our weight training sessions.
The fastest way to lose fat and gain lean muscle is by doing cross training. That is where we did one set of weight training and 5 minutes of cardio, then the next set of weight training, then another 5 minutes of cardio. You really increase your metabolism that way. My trainer had me do cross training one day. The next day I did cardio for 20 minutes followed by weight training.

I do the same! they say its better to do weights and then cardio every day at least thats what me personal trainer has me do. you use up your energy doing weights so when you do your cardio you burn mostly stored fat. i think you have the right idea!! good luck

Your body is resilient and it learns. Keep attacking it. anyone who says mixing cardio and weight training is lost in the clinical fitness trap. Its all mostly bull. You and your body are the two highest authorities when it comes to you r health and what is good for you.
