2 Friday's ago I bought a package of shrimp. They were raw, headless, deveined, but still in their shells. The package says 'Packed on Jun 14, Sell by Jun19' I bought them on the 15th. I usually eat shrimp withing a few days of purchasing them but I forgot I had about 5-6 of these guys left. They've been sitting in my freezer since then. Right now they are slightly pink, and their lilttle legs are almost black. They smell...well like shrimp, not overpowering, but definitely more of a fishy smell than when i bought them. My question is, are they safe to eat, or should I just toss them?

Provided that you stuck the cleaned shrimp into the freezer on the day of purchase and have allowed them to properly defrost (in the fridge overnight), the dangers are minimal. If you have had the shrimp sitting, unfrozen at the back of the fridge - bin them now.

ALWAYS FOLLOW THE MOTTO: WHEN IN DOUBT, THROW IT OUT!

If you are as worried as you seem to be, don't eat them.

I don't wish to alarm you, but there is more info on food poisoning at the following URL:

Hope this helps

x2 If they were in your freezer, all you need to do is take em out, and let em thaw then rinse em off and they should be fine to cook.
Another option, to be safe, is the same, but grill em with some spices. They'll be fine if they were in the freezer.

Here is a tip for the future. If you're gonna freeze the shrimp for a while and not be able to eat them, rinse them off thoroughly and then put them in a zip lock with water. Once the water freezes, it's sort of like a protection. We'll keep raw shrimp in the freezer for months like that and they'll be fine when we take em out to thaw and cook.

Shrimp will give off a distinct smell of ammonia if they are bad. In your case, they've been frozen, so you are okay unless you smell them.

When food is involved, trust your nose. If it's questionable, then the answer is no.
