Don't their salaries depend on church attendance and monetary contributions?

In some cases, perhaps. But you're forgetting all the unpaid clergy out there. I personally know several pastors who have regular jobs and don't supplement their income from church donations. Some denominations insist upon unpaid clergy. And even in cases where they're paid, they're usually not paid very much, and could make far more money elsewhere.

Assuring that the pastor and his family can eat, have a roof over their heads, maybe an automobile and a couple of creature comforts does not constitute a business. Most churches have their members vote on how much money the pastor will receive, health benefits, etcetera per year.

I personally have never known a pastor who was making out on his pay, although there probably are some out there.

In effect a church can be a business. Its ran and works like a business. The reason behind this is because money keeps the church running and the ministries active.
Some churches pay thier pastors a percentage of the tithes but not all. I have never heard of a church paying by the attendance record although we are encouraged to fill seats. The more seats filled the more tithes we bring in!
Many pastors as you well know forget that a church is the house of the Lord and they run it like thier own personal piggy bank!

If it was all about business, I know my pastor would go elsewhere. We don't even pay him enough to quit his job at Walmart. Sad isn't it?

Actually I had a pastor one Sunday stop in a retail store I worked at and bought something. He struck up a religious conversation and asked me why I was working on Sunday. I told him I would stop working on Sunday if he does. He left mad.

Some may not realize it themselves. It's a pyramid scheme, only the top dogs like Pat Robertson really get rich.
