Tonight I was chewing and a part of my tooth (one nearer the back at the top) chipped away. When I looked at it under a light in a mirror I noticed that the area in which the same piece broke away is black/brown! I am not currently (touch wood!!!) not in any pain but are wondering what would happen if I were to leave it or if I went to a dentist i.e. would he be able to fill it. I floss quite alot (to much acctually) and I do tend to go quite hard when flossing. Would this have any effect on this? I also drink alot of Coca-cola/Pepsi.

When drinking cold drinks I can feel a cold feeling in the offending tooth, so does that mean that it is not dead?

the flossing very hard would have a negative effect on your gums, it would eventually make then receded. try flossing with your opposite hand. also you might have to go to your dentist. he/she will either out a cap or a crown on it. unless it is a little chip, at that point he will put a little resin material on it and smooth it out to fill in the tooth. also if you are going to drink soda, rise with water after or brush your teeth, the sugar and acid in the soda eat your enamel.

You have a huge cavity that has resulted in breakage. It's only a matter of time till you are in excrutiating pain. Plus, the rest of your tooth will break away and leave you with nothing. So, get to the dentist ASAP so it can be filled or capped.

the black material could be a cavity that was larger inside the tooth than outside. I would suggest that you get to a dentist right away as internal rot in a tooth cancause abcesses and worse if not promptly attended to.

Don't drink so much soda. It'll rot your teeth like crazy. Drink some tap water. They put floride in it, which helps stregthen your teeth. Also get a toothpaste with floride, and eat stuff with calcium(milk, brocolli, etc)
It wouldn't hurt to go see a dentist. Your tooth shouldn't just chip off when you chew.

U need to go to a dentist. He will fill the cavity. If left untreated, it may expose the root-canal and u will be in trouble. Eat n drink healthy.
