No, I never have dreams where my fingernails break off.
As for a meaning, It's possible this dream represents a tried and failed attempt at vanity. It tells me, although your very conscious about how you look, attempts to fit in you peer group, or what you think is modern fashion just isn't working for you.
My advice to you is just be the real you that your comfortable with, and stop caring so much about what every one else thinks.
Sure looking pretty for that special someone in your life may be important. But its not worth more effort than is really necessary.
Try new activities that challenge you to boost your self esteem and physical well being. The rest will come naturally.
This is my interpretation, as it is given to me, so it shall be.
