No, but good try.

No, definitely not. You actually create more heat when you refridgerate something than you create cold. The refridgerator/freezer just takes the heat from inside the freezer and disperses it outside, using energy and creating more heat in the process...that's why the back or bottom of your refridgerator or freezer (wherever the motor & exhaust are) is usually warm. Thus, using the fridge/freezer (as with any other electricity-using device) contributes to global warming.

Sorry, you can't fix it that way. Nice try, though.

Actually, that would probably make it worse, just ever so slightly. Everyone's houses and other indoor areas would become something like a millionth of a degree cooler for like a split second. But, the freezer temperature increases a little when you open it, and has to use a little more energy / electricity to get back to it's normal operating temperature. Energy consumption means more harmful emissions, etc. as a result of energy production. All of this translates to a negligible contribution to global warming.

Are you totally insane? If you open the door on your freezer, two things happen immediately. 1. your freezer comes on to try to get the temperature down again, thus using electricity much of which comes from carbon-based fuels. 2. your house thermostat detects that the temperature has dropped and the heating comes on, using some more carbon-based fuels.

Either you know all this and are just too bored to think of a sensible question, or you don't and need to go away and do some education before you make me even crosser.

Actually, if you open your refrigerator door, your house will get WARMER! Why? Because no motor is 100% efficient. You have a motor in the refrigerator/freezer that runs the compressor. The motor gives off more heat that the compressor can cool.

So, your suggestion will ADD to global warming.

I think this is a brilliant idea. Who cares about the electricity to run the compressor on you fridge? It would take care of global warming completely.

noooo but ... there are things you can do to help reduce the amount of harm you are causing the enviroment, you can do this by offsetting your carbon on websites such as; www.co2debt.com . On these sites you are able to prevent climate change by funding ethical reforestation projects. I personally found that www.co2debt.com was the best site for this because of their strong relationships with other non-profit organizations

The only way to find out is to do it! How would you get everyone to do this though? Not everyone pays attention!

Of course it would. The trouble is is that Big Environment knows that it would destroy their industry and they kill the idea everytime it is suggested. I'm surprised they haven't deleted your question yet.
