If you mean "easier" as better, then, yes. My mom used to make me do that too. It makes the yard look nicer and you don't end up stepping in dog poo when you walk in the yard.

Only if you don't intend to ever use the yard in the meanwhile, decomposition can take a couple or few years you realise!

my experience is that they hardly decompose, they get hard + dry and stay all summer

if you want a pet, you take care of it. that includes picking up its poo.
