my husband is former navy. he loved it most of the time. they are strict on you about weight and pft requirements. they want you in shape. and the want women on birth control from what i understand all branches do. when on a ship they will try and make you take birth control since you cant be pregnant on board. women are not allowed on subs and will never be on subs. they navy is a great way to see the world, my husband got to see italy cypress greece united arab empire parts of africa. all in one 6 month tour. he had a great time. he worked hard long days too. but as a nuclear mechanic he expected that. ship life isnt that bad, deployments are 6-8 months long they are longer now. when in port your home for a month then out two weeks and leading up to a big deployment you will be in two weeks out two weeks this is called work ups or practice, there are currently ships in the dry docks which mean they arent deployable if your lucky you can get stationed on one of them and not have to deploy. navy life is great if your married you can live in housing or get a house or an apartment, anyone single and above e-5 also can live on there own, other wise you live on your ship or in barracks.

cant compare to the airforce i dont know much about them. other than my brother in law was a pilot and gone an awful lot more than my husband was good luck whatever you choose

it depends on what your looking for... I was in between air force and navy and ultimately decided on Air Force because I don't like ships... So it was an easy choice for me... but the differences I found in my search were 6 weeks of basic training versus weeks of basic training. Women in the navy have to cut their hair to shoulder length... and i don't take lightly to cutting my hair off... The Navy means sea duty so sleeping on a large ocean vessel, which my sister says is like a small community where everyone knows everyone else's business. The Navy can guarantee your job at MEPS as well as tell you what day you are shipping out the Air Force rarely does that. The Navy seemed a little more laid back, and a little more blue collar... the Air force seemed spoiled and they knew it and were not afraid to brag about it.... its all going to come down to if you can see yourself stationed on a boat for six months... sure you will make cool stops along the way, and you will stay in hotels compliments of uncle sam but you will still spend a lot of time on a ship... if you do pick the navy don't go in undesignated... you will swab a lot of decks if you do that until you get to strike for a rate. I picked the air force because my parents were in it and they say it is most like the civilian world... The Navy will give you more money for education though and they they have a program that will allow you to enlist then finish your degree in 36months... which means year round school while your getting paid and not paying for school and then you can become an officer... I dunno I'm all about crossing into the blue... but accelerating your life does have more monetary benefits bigger bonuses and there is also the Navy college fund... so it all depends on what you want out of it...do your own research because recruiters lie...!!!

In the Navy, you could be on a ship for 6 months, living in tight spaces, and only have a single bed to put all your stuff. People stink and you can't get away.

For Air Force, we deploy 3 to 4 months, and depending on where you go, you could be in a tent, or even get a room. The AF usually travels a lot better, and our standards of living is the highest among all branches.

This is just a little bit of comparison.

the navy! better looking uniforms for one! lol but to be honest...you can and will see the world in the navy...the airforce you will more than likely be stuck in the middle of nowhere. as far as someone mentioned better jobs and training in the airforce...that is totally untrue! and for the most part...you will be out of harms way.

If you like the sea and like traveling go Navy. If you like a better quality of life and like simitraveling go Air Force. The smartest thing to do is go ROTC and join as a officer and get paid crap loads more than enlisted folk.
