The answer of course is that no one made God - God has always been. However, this is not easy for a five year old to understand.
You know your child best and thus know best how to explain this to him. But a good children's Bible might help. The truth is the answer boggles even my mind. So it is difficult for a child. They don't really need to understand the answer. I would stress the comfort of knowing that God has always been and will always be. No matter how old he/she is or where they are God will be there to love them.
How much God loves us can be seen by this world he created. Isn't it wonderful that God made all this not only so he could enjoy its beauty, but so that we could enjoy it?

Hello there!
So you child is asking some of these questions now, huh? Your 5 year old is asking Who made God? :) It can be hard when their little mind gets to thinking and starts trying to put the pieces to together. It is very good sign though, kids need to think about things!
Here are some scriptures that maybe the next time it gets brought up you can take him to your personal copy of the Bible and show him some of these scriptures. He might surprise you, he might get the concept that Jehovah has no beginning or end, but truly being able to grasp it is another story. Me being almost 30 years old, sometimes I just sit there and Im like, "How can he have NO beginning, HOW? Forever he was there, and Forever before that, and before that" LOL The Bible is clear though on the matter at hand and I hope it helps you.
"Before the mountains themselves were born,
Or you proceeded to bring forth as with labor pains the earth and the productive land,
Even from time indefinite to time indefinite you are God" Psalms 90:2
"Are you not from long ago, O Jehovah? O my God, my Holy One, you do not die. O Jehovah, for a judgment you have set it; and, O Rock, for a reproving you have founded it." Habakkuk 1:12
"and by the One who lives forever and ever, who created the heaven and the things in it and the earth and the things in it and the sea and the things in it, he swore: “There will be no delay any longer" Revelation 10:6
"And they are singing the song of Moses the slave of God and the song of the Lamb, saying: “Great and wonderful are your works, Jehovah God, the Almighty. Righteous and true are your ways, King of eternity. " Revelation 15:3
So maybe you can explain to your child from the scriptures that he is timeless and without beginning or end, consequently never grows old or tired; he is also inexhaustible in energy, able to defend his people, and carry his people and bear them up.
I hope this helps!!!

Hi Johnny
If you study history carefully, esp, religious history,
you will find that Men created God in his own mind as
a way to have control over the "lesser populations",
so they could have complete and absolute control
over there subjects with fear of retribution by that God
in the after life. I believe that there is a Higher Power
that exist in this universe, but all things have a beginning. To say that God or whatever has always been
around and had no beginning is not rational or has any
logic whatsoever. That type of reasoning is an easy
way out for those who can't give or come up with a
better answer. It would be best not to answer such an
unanswerable question. and mind you, i've read the
bible many times over and by itself is not completely
reliable given the reason that it was written by men and
retranslated thousands of time to fit each owns interpretation. E.g., esp., The NewTestament.
Tell your 5 year old that Man made God in His Own Image.

You call that a hard question? Geez wait till you are asked, "Is Divine Revelation necessary?" "Is God Providential?" "With what authority can one claim the Bible is the Word of God?"
Nothing made God. God is eternal. Nothing can come before eternity. You see all our time is based on something. The earth's revolution around the sun. The earth making a complete rotation. The cycle of the moon. Certain days of the year set apart for celebration of historical or religious events. But God is not bound by these things.
God does not have days, weeks, months, years, etc. Time is really non-existant in an eternal state. It is so beyond our comprehension that we cannot understand it fully, but here is a graph.
A--------------B-----------------C
That is a temporal timeline. "A" may mark the birth of Christ or your own birthday or whatever. C could be the present day, or maybe the day you die. Or both if you are unlucky today.
-------------------------------->
That is an everlating timeline. It may begin with a certain event, but it goes on forever.
<------------------------------->
That is eternal. No beginning. No end. Those lines can continue forever and ever. You will never get to a point where it ends. Same with God. As so, nothing can preceed him, or come before him.
Also remember God is supernatural. He is not made up of physical components, etc. He does not abide by the laws of nature.
Real easy stuff.

This is a paradox and many ignorant people like to think its proof God doesn't exist.
You can ask this then:
How do you create a matter converter that will allow me to recreate any object I can think of?
We may not know now but in time we will. God is not something like a chair. A chair is made by someone and exists in our reference of reality.
Anything outside of our reference of reality may use a completely different system of physics, time, and space.
We cant say who made God, what God is made of, or how God's powers work. But that doesn't prove he does or does not exist..
If this is a serious question then the answer would be simply:
God is.

No one, nothing. God always was. He said "I Am that I Am". Revelations: I Am Alpha & Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, the First and the Last. He is The Creator and the possesor of the earth. There is nor was another God beside Him.

He was made by Aurthur Willibacens, famous Cogitater and philologist, in 1847. He used two damp pieces of parchment and tamarack sap.
An odd side note is that he refused to ever offer a reason for his actions. We all owe him a great debt.

Make something up. Christians and Atheists both think their view is absolute so you'll never get a straight answer, especially from here. He/She is just 5 years old so maybe its better if you just let him or her make up their own mind later on in life. Why burden a child's mind with the semantics of atheism and religion? Let them live in your love and worry about gods love or lack there of, later on when they have a better capacity for understanding. Just a thought.

A little bird hatched him out of an egg. No five year old kid asks who made God. If you say he does I say you lie.
