I purchased the set for my father for Fathers day and he can't seem to get it going. I'm thinking that he may need a special DVD player equipped for HD DVD. Please let me know if you have any information. Thanks!

There are 3 versions of the Planet Earth boxset, Blu-ray, HD-DVD and DVD. The DVD version will play in all 3 types of players, but the Blu-ray version will only play in Blu-ray players, and the HD-DVD version will only play in HD-DVD players.

If it has a red stripe across the top it is the HD-DVD version, if it has a blue stripe it is the Blu-ray version (both stripes have the format's logo in the center as well). The DVD version does not have a stripe across the top at all.

The Blu-Ray will only work in a Blu-Ray Player
The HD-DVD will play in both a standard DVD player and an HD-DVD player, but be sure to flip the disc over, as the DVD version is on the opposite side of the disc than the HD-DVD version
The DVD will play on all 3 players, but is kind of pointless now since HD-DVDs carry the normal DVD version on the reverse side

It depends on which version you bought. Regular DVD's should play fine on any DVD player. However, if you bought the HD verson then you will need to either exchange for the regular DVD's or buy an HD player.

No, all DVDs play in everyday, regular DVD gamers. whether, some DVDs are stated to not artwork specifically DVD gamers. It quite relies upon on the producer of the participant. in case you wanna attempt the DVD pop it on your notebook's DVD (not CD) participant. Plus, in case you have been to purchase HD-DVD gamers, the layout's exceedingly lots ineffective.
