He won't sit down because of an incident where he pulled the guard off of the chair, and pinched his "winkie" when putting it back on. LOL. (not meaning to laugh, but it's what happens when little boys are "gifted". LOL). He now uses the potty chair as a step stool so he can reach to pee in the big potty. How do I teach him to hold on to it?, and also any advice on not making him pee on his legs when he starts and stops peeing. lol. (I've never had to do this for a little boy before). Oh yeah. My husband doesn't know what to do, bcause he sits down at home. My son has never seen another boy do this.

I have girls, so I don't have much experience with winkie-holding. (I'm a mom, contrary to what the avatar might lead you to believe.)
I just wanted to comment that I, too, think it's fine to use nicknames for private parts. I know it's so politically incorrect now, but who cares? My girls have a girlishness, and my older daughter came up with "dingle dangle" when she saw a little boy. We thought it was cute, and, really, where's the harm? She'll learn the correct anatomical terms soon enough.
Don't you hate it when people get on their high horse and tell you you're doing something wrong? I've had ignorant people tell me that I'll ruin my kids' eyes by letting them wear sunglasses! These were complete strangers! And they think it's better to expose those little eyes to unfiltered UV rays.

As for potty training, I think you should try to get him to sit without a guard. My girls stopped using one early on, too.
Otherwise, I'm sure your husband has peed standing up (or should I say urinated?) a time or two in his life, and he is the most appropriate one to be showing your son how to do it. He should take him with him when he goes to the bathroom and let him watch.

I want to mention that there is nothing wrong with men sitting down. In fact, it's often preferable because some of them don't have very good aim!

Good luck.

You son has a daddy let daddy take him in the bathroom and keep at it until he knows how to hold his "private Parts" Don't be in a hurry for him to do this either . Your son if he is only 21 months old he is doing great. Give him a break and take the aiming slowly. One of my son's would not stand and try to aim until my husband took him for a walk in the woods and he had to go potty . My husband simply this the way you do it or else you do it in pants and if you do it there you will get a sore butt because you will have to wear those wet clothes all day. No problem then peed at a tree aand came home to me telling me he was a big boy now he pees like daddy

I'd "let it go" for a while if he's still learning. Make sure he can go easily and reach the potty before worrying about his technique. If he's really, really secure then have Daddy show him how to hold it, but don't push the issue. Keep a few Clorox wipes handy, otherwise, just enjoy the fact that he's out of dipes so soon! (Congratulations on that, I'm envious)

Although Colleen can often be a bit gruff, she's got a point this time. It's a penis, be an adult and teach your child that it's a penis. Come on. Also, your husband needs to stand up, if not for his own dignity, than to teach his son the proper way for a man to urinate. And most little boys seem well endowed, it's just how it is. I seriously doubt your son is "gifted". It's time to be grown-ups and stop the games. Do the right thing for your son, and any other children you may have~

Does your daughter have a favourite factor she likes plenty ...say stickers. Setup a calendar and use stickers for her to place at the days she is going within the potty. Sometimes incentive is a virture. Or take her specified out a the top of the week simply herself and Mom to her favorite ice cream position or exhibit or some thing. It is unexpected how swiftly they're going to come round to the strategies you provide them for going at the potty. Good Luck wish this is helping you.

As far as calling it a winkie I see no problems with it for the child. Honestly, how many 2 years have you heard say penis? When we were potty training our son my husband went in with him and he got the knack of it but he was 3 versus not quite 2. He'll get it when he's ready.

My son is 4 and he very seldom holds his. He will lean all the way over the toilet just so he won't have to. Maybe you should try getting him to sit down again, or just keep showing him how to hold it.

Maybe you should keep some cheerios in the bathroom and encourage him to pee on the targets.
Hope it helps!

My son just couldnt seem to get it for a while. We were camping one weekend and we figured we would have him try and pee outside. His dad would go with him and they would pee at the same time. since that weekend, he hasnt had a problem at all.
