When the eyes are open, they each have an image. The brain likes to line up those images so that you see only one of things. As soon as the eyes have fixation on an object, they line up together.
When you sleep, your lids go down, the eyes move up and away from the space between the lids (palpebral fissure) which protects the cornea from exposure. When the eyes open again, the eyes drop back down and fix on the object of regard. It's called Bell's phenomenon (I think). Try closing your eyes and lifting your lid with your finger, you'll see the lower white part of the eye as the cornea bells up.

I have never heard of that. When I sleep my eyes close and no one watching me (I don't usually draw a crowd for that anyway) could tell if they are straight or crossed. Do the onlookers when you go to sleep have a way of telling about your eyes?

Its all depend on which type of lenses are you using. they can be categorized mainly in two category . First is optical lenses that are prescribed by your doctor. these lenses are presicribed by doctor and used instead of SPECTACLES . The another one is COSMETIC contact Lenses. These type of lenses are not for improving eye sights but they are used for improving appearing and beauty of eyes. This type of lenses can be harmfull if they are not bought from authorised dealers. Always FDA or TDA approved lenses should be used. It is better to consult doctor before using any lens.
