...and their children who are my nephews and nieces..., so whose family values are we talking about if we dismiss gay people as not worthy of equal civil rights?

Hinds feet, according to the APA homosexuality is not a perversion, it is a normal human variation in sexual orientation. I think you are getting over-emotional.

Yay for you! We have many gay friends and they all love their families just as much as any hetero. "Family values" is a euphemism for "Christian bigotry."

Well Im very sorry to hear about your dad . This summer I had an experience close to yours . My parents went through a rough divorce about 5 years ago too. When my dad remarried only 1 year after my mom went downhill and to make a long story short stopped eating and became paranoid which led to her attempt of suicide .I wish i could say Im glad she lived but she continues to get worse she refuses help and we use all our time making sure she eats and is alive . We feel like shes the walking dead and even though she is hear with us shes not really cuz she dont want to be . Her parents blamed my dad to and I had it out with them but you cant change the way they feel . My grand-mom called me about 4 days ago and we talked but I dont think things will ever be the same between us again. If my mo dont get better I dont think I will look at life the same again either. All I can say is you know the truth youll have to stay around people that understand during this hard time .Good luck and sorry again.

We would be talking about "Christian" family values AKA the Bigot family.

They can not force people to join their religion but by god they will legislate it so that you have to live by it anyhow.

They actually think that their religion invented marriage so they get to make the rules. It would be pathetically laughable except that they do indeed control the laws of the nation.

Think before you vote.

It's all an interpretational kind of thing. Everybody thinks and reacts based off of their own causes and conditions, it's just when it causes harm and suffering, especially when it's about racism, ant-religious rhetoric and anti-LGBT rhetoric, etc. we need to teach and speak out. This is a good point you're making and I stand with you on it.

gay family is an oxymoron.
You are alive, right?
You are allowed to work, right?
Your employers may even provide life and health insurance for you too, right?
You are allowed to voice your opinion, right?
You are allowed to buy/sell things, right?
You are allowed to own things, (i.e., property,), right?
You are allowed a birth certificate, social security number, a driver's license, a high school and/or college degree, right?
You are allowed to vote in local, state, and national elections, right?

Reality check here...you have equal civil rights.

You just do not and should never be given the rights of a married couple, because a normal natural marriage, a natural family is ONLY able to be fruitful & multiply to insure the furtherance of your bloodlines through the marriage and union between a man and a woman.

Gay couples do not procreate. They do not further their bloodlines, they destroy them.

I fully believe that gay people are just as capable of having a strong sense of family. I hate when people talk about homosexuality ruining the family unit. I can see that by having gay marriages and by allowing gay people to adopt, we are finally CHANGING what was formally seen as a family. Just because gay people are different does not make them any less capable of having traditional values.

The values of the narrow minded who think everyone else has to live according to the tenets of their religion, even though they can't even manage to do it themselves.

Fundies seem to think that everyone must have their values. They don't much care if we like them or even want them, we must live by them anyhow.

They would also be the very first to scream bloody murder if some other religion's values were imposed onto them.

You have equal civil rights. No one is stopping you from having a same-gender partner. You can have a partner, your only issue is that you want the government to officially recognize them as your partner. I would rather marriage be banned than gay marriage endorsed. But I wouldn't want homosexuality outlawed either. You have suffered enough throughout the ages for your decisions, and I think you have a right to sleep with whoever you want so long as it does not contradict any already established laws. But I do not believe the government should officially endorse what you do and give you tax breaks for it.

"Not worthy of equal civil rights?"
Whatever all that means. You have equal civil rights already. The right to marry another man is not a civil right.
Marriage is a contract between a man and a woman and not two men or two women..
You ask this question on R&S and I suppose you are looking for a Biblical answer or you would have asked it somewhere else..
You may give me all the thumbs down you want but it is still on R&S and I am giving a R&S answer..
Homosexual conduct is a perversion and it is wrong and that doesn't mean that I hate you. I don't hate my son when I tell him he can't do something that I consider wrong, I just tell him "NO it is wrong" and why is because the Bible & God say it is wrong..

Because you love your family has nothing to do with whether being a homosexual is wrong or not.. Most people love their families..

I guess your talking about the fundaMENTALists perception of family values. Gee, they think gay people were born under a leaf in the cabbage patch. Don't let it bother you. Small brains = small hearts.
