Ok...so... I'm a 24 yr old female and I am single. I've always been a pretty strong indepedent woman. I am very career oriented and I often find myself deep in my studies. The only problem is that I find that guys don't like this. They tend to want a girl that "needs" them or isn't so independent. Is this a possibility or am I over thinking things?

Wow! You're a few years older than me, but you're exactly what I'm looking for (I think). I'm 20, very independent and into my studies, very career-oriented. I haven't had a girlfriend since high school (which was my only gf, and lasted a month). I'm a smart conservative guy that has my head on straight. But I find the opposite! Girls aren't attracted to guys like me!
Then again, I would want some bf/gf time... Being a busybody and never being around is never healthy for a relationship.
You'll find a guy. Patience... Or, that's what they tell me.

Someone already said something I thought was "brilliant"; in relationships the people involved have to want each other the same amount. Feelings have to be mutual and partners have to contribute equal amounts (great if it's 100% each).
Having said that, the guy you are looking for, or the guy that's looking for someone like you is out there. Everyone is different and what may work for a friend of yours (as great as it may sound) may not work for you. You need to remember that things that are worth anything are usually not the easiest to come by (or else they wouldn't be as worthy).

Some guys are. But that's just because they feel threatened by a woman who can support herself. They feel more important if they are "needed"
You don't need a guy like that anyway. Raise the standard and get a great guy who will accept you for being the great woman you are.

There are certainly guys that don't like independent girls, but if that's all that you're meeting, you're meeting the wrong guys. Look for guys at school who are also well-educated. Look for guys on dating sites (so you can filter out people who are looking for uneducated women).
