He races across his limb and back as fast as his two legs can go, puching his toy with his head and screeching alot. This high pitched screech----is deafening!!! Is he nuts? He is 10yrs old to us, and we are older and its anxiety riden to hear this alot. He wants for nothing I know of, except a mate. No way on that.

He is desperately trying to tell you that he's bored. He should be out of his cage every day. If you don't want him flying around, clip his wings.

Try toys that are meant to be destroyed, or pulled apart. Especially natural materials like sisal, wood, leather, vine, and palm shredders.

If he doesn't have one - get him a mirror. Make sure his home is located near the action, with a great view of the outdoors, or give him a tv.

More than anything, he probably just needs your one-on-one attention, outside of the cage.

He may be bored! A bird that is bored will act up and if nothing changes he may become a depressed bird and start pulling out his own feathers!! Perhaps some new toys for his cage, maybe a mirror, some soothing music for him, or a change of scenery in the house. Can you put him by a window? If you've already tried all these things, perhaps a cage cover will calm him when he gets too rowdy. But make sure he's not bored first! Covering a bored bird will make him feel isolated.

I have a cockateil as well. Her name is Shaggy. Shaggy does this "dance" too. I find that she does this when we are in the same room as her. I believe it is for attention. If I let her out of her cage. (She likes to stand of the top of the cage where she can see everything.) She is much better. Remember birds are like us, they need to have diversions and be entertained.

My birds wings are not clipped, so when she is out of her cage she can fly to us (and she does). When her wings were not clipped she would glide off of her cage (on to the floor) and go exploring. This was a little scary because we had to be mindful not to step on her.

I hope this helps, good luck

Sounds like he wants to play. Try taking him out and petting him. Also change his cage around every time you clean it. They get bored with the same environment, so add toys and rearrange the branches.

If he/she still gets this way, cover the cage with his cage cover or a bed sheet and turn off the lights in the room to settle him/her down.

My bird has done that. I'm pretty sure its boredom. Get him out & let him have a change of scenery. You could also get him a friend because they get lonely if they don't have anyone to play with.
