Tough question. But here's a tougher one. Assuming all matter had to be created, along with all non-physical matter (like souls - which one should believe in if she/he believes in God), then who/what created God?
And if God wasn't created but somehow always existed, isn't it possible that matter always existed too (then we don't really need the God factor)?
I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is no consensus over your question, just suppositions, faith, theories and wild guesses. In short: ignorance. Since that question cannot be answered, it's up to you to choose what you put in that big ignorance well: God, the Big Bang, an Invisible Pink Unicorn, whatever suits you!
I'm not a believer, so for me, the answer will remain "I don't know" until science comes up with something....
And remember: when you think that the Egyptians once believed that the world was created when a divine being, hem... engaged in solitary pleasure (embarrassed chuckle), the whole matter seems a lot lighter...

Well, you really have good questions. My answer is: no, it is not possible.
I believe that the Bible is true, so I am inclined to believe in the Genesis record. The Old Testament told that Jesus was going to come, and He came here. Jesus did exactly what the Bible told He was going to do. Jesus confirmed the Old Testament. I believe that the Genesis record is our God telling it as it happened, His eyewitness testimony, and Jesus is that God and when He was here in a human form, He did not change it.
You are telling me that I should not trust the book that is thousands of years old, and then I should believe that you have information about happenings of millions years ago. And then you ( generally speaking ) do not understand my difficulty to use a word " theory" instead of the fact.
Since the evidence shows that time and space and matter were created at the Big Bang, the most propable scientific conclusion is that the universe was caused by something OUTSIDE of time, space, and matter ( Eternal Cause )
I believe God created a lot of things aged, but we do not have any idea how old. I believe He is capable of creating something millions of years old, and some one year old and some 18 years old etc. God is not limited like us. This all is beyond our comprehension.

Since nothing is created out of nothing then it is only logical to assume we have a point of origin .
That point of origin has yet to be determined . I see no evidence of what man calls God .
A man breeds Race horses and after a time to cut down on expenses puts them down .
Would you call him a kind man .
God has put man down during the great flood . Why drown people when you could simply wave a hand and they would be gone ..
It makes no sense to me and unless anyone can show me some tangible evidence of God none exists .

In either scenario, you are assuming all matter in the universe had to be created. I think the more plausible take is that all matter in the universe has always existed. I know it is a hard concept to wrap your brain around. However, a law of physics is that matter cannot be created nor destroyed. If we accept this as true, all matter has no beginning nor an end. Matter within the universe only transforms.

Calculations by cosmologists indicate that matter in the early universe was uniformly distributed and hence gravitational contractions (contraction is opposite of expansion) in an expanding universe could not have taken place due to natural circumstances unless some special features were built into they system about one second after the big bang by intelligence.
If the big bang was a chance event what we would see would be a disorderly arrangement of matter with no galaxies and no order. Things were controlled by an intelligent designer
".....and we decked the skies of the world with lamps.... such is the measuring of the Mighty (God), the Knower. "Quran 41:12
Einstein's General Theory of Relativity leads scientists to conclude that in its earliest instant, the universe was infinitely dense where its diameter was zero, i.e. nothing:, yes NOTHING. God creates out of nothing just like the Quran suggests.

Thoroughly possible to a logically thinking person.
Unfortunately, step 1 of being religious is to throw logic out the window and believe whatever that religion preaches based on 'faith'.
Faith requires no proof, ignores contradictions and discounts anything that disproves it.
I don't care if someone wants to believe in 'god' or 'jesus' - but when they try to pretend like there is anything the least bit scientific about 'creation theory' or 'intelligent design' then they cross a line.

Sure, it could be possible.
But then are you saying that the universe was just a coincidence?
Everything has to have a cause and effect. right? The effect would be the Universe... What would be the cause? Why is there a Universe?
In your theory the cause would be nothing. Can you really create something from nothing? No.
That's why the old scientific term "from nothing, comes nothing".

Knowing that God existed in the heavens above and decided to make a creation below it is alright with me. You think that God don't exist then why did the people try building a tower to heaven and God said they were too wise and change the language into different languages to confuse them in their doing. Knowledge of the spiritual world needs to be known first before man try to figure out this world. God will let us know all things in his timing. He did not let them know of certain things in the days of old and why should he at the request of mankind now. When this world ends we will know all things and one only needs to wait until that time.
Creation did come from something and that person is the Lord and who created the lord we will have to wait and ask him that question cause no man knows. God already has it worked out.

Lao Tzu referred to creation as being uncreated. In otherwords it creates itself, without a Creator. He also says things are transformed without a Transformer.
Sounds an awful lot like a self-evolving universe.

I am not Christian ... and this is not an explanation stemming from Christianity, Judaism, Islam or any of the major faiths.
It's a different perspective and quite plausible to me.

Even if you don't find it plausible, it's an interesting read.
