Yes - dont buy until you haggle and get as much as you can for your money eg extras that they'll try to charge for - be ruthless.

As everyone else has said the answer of course is yes. Now that you know that, don't go to a dealership with some arbitrary number that no one can even fathom. You will get angry with the dealers and they will think you are an idiot. Here is the best way. Look at the ads the dealers have run on the car you want. Those are loss leaders which mean those cars are the least expensive in that model line, but usually you can get the same discount on a similar car in the same model line with the options you want. Be sure to read the fine print about rebates for which you may or may not qualify. This will take the negotiation away because there is nothing left to negotiate but a trade if you have one. Also, if you are financing with them, they generally will cut a better deal. Be sure to ask if there is any special financing available too.

Of course it is except for Saturns and Scions.
Everything at a car dealer is negotiable-even if they tell you it isn't.
The simple way to buy a car...
1. Decide what model you want..options, colors, etc. Test drive your choices to narrow it down.
2. Decide what you're willing to pay (go to consumerreports.org and get a copy of their New car price service..about $12. That will give you a "target price".
3. Find the car, make an offer then SHUT UP. Let the salesman blather and try to BS you. Ignore him/her. Tell him politely "here is my offer, call me if you want to do business" and walk out. Stick to your number as he'll try to get you to pay more. If they don't call back by the next day go somewhere else.

Most cars are, it depends on how long the car has been out for. If it's a car that just came out on the market it will be a while or really tough to get a discount. You can go to sites like Edmunds and look up what others are paying for the car you are interested in.

yes, the best thing you can do is to know the invoice price when you walk in, most dealer will not sell it to you for the invoice price but you should be able to get it at a few hundred over and that is a pretty good deal, although it will be tough to get a popular, well selling car for that but give a few dealers a shot. you can ask them to show you the invoice but that may not work, if you are serouse about buying the car tell them that if they let you see the invoice you will take at a few hundred over the invoice price

on a saturn, the msrp is not negotiable. your trade in value IS.
other makes are negotiable from sticker, providing the car is not rare, collectible, or in high demand, such as the shelby 500 gt which sells for sticker plus about 20 thousand.
