Do a "Save As..." and choose the appropriate older version. Then it can be read in Excel 2002.

Probably not. Most software is downward mobile which is the exact opposite of what you are trying to accomplish. Newer software contains new and/or updated macros and commands. Earlier versions will not recognize them.
You could try File, Save AS.
Save the Excel 2007 file as txt or CSV (comma separated value). This file will read into an earlier version - however, - if you use any commands, formatting, whatever that are new to the newer version, obviously they will be lost.
Solution - as I see it - keep the 2007 file simple. Do not use any features which you have not seen in 2002.
Copy your Excel file to a practice file - work with the practice file - and try it.
