I'm trying to make a document where I have lines and can type on top of the lines. I tried typing and then underlining the text but it’s not the same. Does anyone know how I can insert lines on word and then type on top of them? Thanks!

What you can do is create a table and then insert your text.

As another answerer suggested, I too use tables - a lot. They are great for creating forms.

Just Insert, Table, set your columns and rows.
click View
Toolbars
Tables & Borders

Select the whole table
On the Tables toolbar, click the down-arrow next to the line
click "no border"
click the down-arrow next to the border button
click on the button with a square and + inside
- this will select all borders
look at the table - there are no borders
if you don't see the gridlines, click Table on the menu bar
click "show gridlines"

Type your text
- where you want an underline, click the down-arrow on the table toolbar to choose a line
- click the down-arrow next to the border button and choose where you want the line

If you find your text is more than a cell will allow, you have two options:
- select a cell
- right-click in it, select Properties
- click cell, click options, click Wrap Text
or------------
you can merge a couple of cells:
- select two or three cells
- click the merge button on the table toolbar

You can insert a table and type the words in the table and then make it so that you can not see the vertical lines in the table. Just a suggestion.

create a table. You can set the border on the "cells" in the table however you want.
