Arrrrrggghhhh!
I thought you said "pirate."
I do agree with you tho. I think there is a tendancy to automatically discount anything "intellectual." I know everyone I grew up with was deeply suspect of "university types." You could hear the right wing pandering to it in their attacks on Kerry last election cycle too.
It's weird that that type (including Facists and Nazis) seem to love intellectualism as their favorite whipping boy.

This jogs my memory of the story of Byzas. A Greek who based the city of Byzantium (later Constantinople/Instanbul) "Byzas became a Greek colonist from the Dorian city of Megara, son of King Nisos (Greek ?????), who consulted the oracle of Apollo at Delphi. The oracle recommended Byzas to settle opposite from the "Land of the Blind". extra advantageous a team of Megarian colonists, Byzas got here across a region opposite Chalcedon, the place the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn meet and flow the sea of Marmara. He desperate the Chalcedonians could have been blind to no longer know the advantages the land on the eu area of the Bosphorus had over the Asiatic area, and in 667 BC based Byzantium on the eu area, as a result ending up the oracle's quest." _____________________________________ yet what's the two eyed guy. some thing i won't have the ability to ensure without great assumptions. in keeping with danger, the Enlightened King. the two way, he could be a "extra advantageous" King.

I have a lot of one eyed friends. The condition of their lives and spiritual development is not of my concern unless they should want to know more. I can only show by example and try to plant a seed. I have curly friends as well as straight. I've known many women who have had abortions. Murder, rape and pedophilia are not fine and no church stands behind that sort of behavior that I know of. It is not a Christian's place to label others as bad. Love your neighbor as yourself. I just don't know what to do about the jerk on the other side of the fence.

I see your point.
I guess it depends on how the one-eyed man uses his eye. If you have a unique advantage or knowledge that everyone else lacks, you could not tell anyone and just use it to your advantage. Or, if you aren't that shrewd, maybe you would be a pariah.
In the case of Dawkins, Richard isn't that shrewd; scientists seldom are. You might be on to something.

Actually, JC's Flip Flops . . . I teach Critical Thinking. This question speaks directly to the issue of logical fallacies.
Fine question! Though, logically, I have to say that you are generalizing as much as the Christians are. (Don't take it personally. I'm on a logic rampage.)
It does make me think though. Now, I have to go ponder . . .

Away out here they have a name for rain and one-eyed men and fire. The rain is Tess, the fire's Joe and they call the one-eyed man Pariah. Pariah sees the stars blown around and sees the clouds a-flyin'. Pariah sees the mountains that sound like folks was out there dyin'. Pariah. (Pariah). Pariah. (Pariah). They call the one-eyed man Pariah. Before I knew Pariah's name and heard his wail and whinin', I had a faith and it had me and the sun was always shinin'. But then one day I left my faith. I left it far behind me and now I'm lost, so gol' darn lost not even God can find me. Pariah. (Pariah). Pariah. (Pariah). They call the one-eyed man Pariah. Out here they have a name for rain and one-eyed men and fire only. When you're lost and all alone, there ain't no name for lonely. And I'm a lost and lonely man without a star to guide me. Pariah find my faith for me. I need my faith to guide me. Pariah. (Pariah.) They call the one-eyed man Pariah. Pariah! Pariah. (Pariah.) They call the one-eyed man Pariah.

A fine example of your theory just emerged on the news.
A minister who was on ALL the christian networks changed his stance on homosexuality. He says that Jesus never shunned ANYONE, not even a prostitute, and that anyone was gay never came up. He says we should embrace them as they are. It is not up to us to change them we should just love ALL people.
Boom. instant pariah. No one will talk to him, his congregation walked out on him.
Lucky for him, tho, there are gay Christians and they go to his church now.
I think the one-eyed man was shunned.
