I work for a dog grooming business thats been around since '95 and their cliental has dropped dramatically since 9/11. I spend alot of days off work because there is only 4-8 clients a day when we need at least 10. The owner advertises in the local magazine/newspaper (the herald) with coupons for 15% off returning customers and 25% off new. These are very popular coupons. Problem is, her shop is in a warehouse bay and isn't visable from the street. The big signs you can put out on the street and too expensive she claims. So we soley rely on advertisments and referals. Any ideas on how to advertise and were?
We also want more people to book ahead instead of last minute or walk in but they dont. It doesn't help she has a "walk in's welcome" motto on her flyers. Any ideas?

One other thing you can do in addition to the sign and the local shops boards is maybe set up a cute website and put the address on all the flyers and signs. You can set up a website free with some providers. And it's not at all difficult to do. Try www.officelive.com. Microsoft set this up for small business. It is a pilot and at this time is completely free. They even pay for the domain name. A lot of people look online now for services like that. Some don't even read the paper or the phone book anymore. So, if they see a flyer for a service they need and it has a website on it, they will probably remember it and look it up the next time they surf.

Are there any veterinarians in the area that you could leave flyers with? Maybe you can team up with a local animal shelter and give a free bath with every adoption, this way you promote animal adoption and business too!

I think a good sign is essential, and worth the investment.

How about yellow page ads?

Can you put up an ad at the local pet stores, on their bulletin boards?

GEt listed in the Senior Survival guide, offer to pick up pets for grooming, go to senior centers, dog parks, put fliers in grocery stores, upscale apartment complexes, advertise "classes" in pet care at night to get people familiar with your location.
