If you are interested in an in depth treatment of "sadism and masochism" just type one or the other in Yahoo! search and a number of links comes up. Wikipedia has good summaries of the disorders under, "sadism and masochism as medical terms", "Sadism and masochism" and "BDSM".

Krafft-Ebing coined the terms sadism and masochism in 1886 and Sigmund Freud, a contemporary, picked up on it and expanded the analysis of the disorder(s). All the history of the disorders can be found in the wikipedia articles cited above. So can the psychology of it as well as its medical ramifications in modern culture.

Good luck in your search, good health, peace and love.
