I have a 5 yrs.old granddaughter.(thus my name on this site!)
My son called a while back with the same problem.
Children go through many eating "stages". The easiest way is to limit all snacks so he is hungry at meal times.
Serve kid friendly foods like mac-n-cheese, chicken fingers, hamburger patties (without bun) with a smiley face of ketchup drawn on it.(you get the idea).
Call him to supper, place his meal on the table then eat yourself. If he refuses to eat, let him leave the table, tell him his meal is in the fridge when he's ready to eat. Give him NOTHING else to eat. You can explain that he needs to eat his supper first.
You'll be facing a headache for a while and you'll feel guilty that you're "starving" your child. It should not last more than a day or two.
If the problem persists, talk with your pediatrician.
Stand strong mom!

Do you mean cookED food...? Well, don't give your kid any snacks or at least limit them to good things like veggies and a little bit of Hidden Valley dressing or something. Just give him a plate of good cooked food, and if he doesn't eat it, he can starve. Heartless? Depends on your perspective. I call it hard love because he's got to learn to eat cooked food and not so many cheetos so he doesn't contribute to the obesity level in this country. He can whine and complain all he wants, but remember that you're saving him from an early death.

Tell him if he wants to be big and strong some day he needs to have good cooked meals to grow strong muscles, but don't push too much. When you eat make sounds like it is Soooo goood so he sees that he is missing out on something delicious.
When my son was little I would ask him to take a small bite for Grandpa, then Grandma then Uncle Dan and Aunt Cynthia etc so he would have it finished before I ran out of relatives!!

You have to keep encouraging him to eat cooked foods and making him eat small portions. He gets nothing else until he tries what you've cooked and make that very clear to him.You can't just keep giving in to him. He's already figured that out by now.Little ones are very smart.
When one of my sons were young (around three) I had the same problem so this is what I did and he soon was fine with most foods.
However, after worrying about him for months,I took him to our doctor who told me that as long as he ate peanut butter and drank lots of milk,he would be missing nothing.
Good luck with your child.

My son hasn't lost any weight yet he has a habit of having foodstuff in his mouth, then retching and balking and spitting it out. as quickly as we pronounced with the wellness practitioner what he will consume - fruit, yoghurts, milk, in some situations ham in bread, some veg (it modifications each week) - he could proceed to exist toast if I permit him - the wellness practitioner pronounced he's protecting all of the main foodstuff communities and she or he wasn't in contact. he's vivid, articulate, his hair is tender and his pores and skin is obvious so she pronounced we actually shouldn't complication. it rather is good to get it logged nevertheless only in case college do start up poking around (I paintings in a college and that i understand what it rather is like as quickly as human beings start up 'noticing' issues a pair of youngster). You make him eat it. Do not give him anything else. If he will not eat the food you cook then he must not be hungry. He can't just eat junk all of the time.

Tell him he either eats that or goes hungry. Stand strong and don't give in. He will eventually get hungry enough that he will eat it and eventually will learn that is the rule. Don't give him other options or else he will never eat what he's suppose to.
