The car furthest from the crash-end. If you look at train crashes, it's usually the ones on the end that was involved in a crash that derails, gets torn open, accordioned, or crushed. The ones furthest from the crash-end usually stays on the tracks.
The frequency of train crashes involving fatalities in the NYC subway system is thankfully pretty darn rare. You probably have nothing to worry about.

There is no safest place to be. Noone can predict what cars will be affected in an accident. The front car may be the first to go, the last car could be hit by an oncoming train. The middle cars could be forced off the track and crushed by the cars behind them. Don't worry about it.

It really depends on where and if the train is hit or how the train is damaged, but my best guess would be towards the middle.

I would say the middle in case the train hits something in front of it or is hit from behind---make sure you know where the exits are and how many rows from your seat in case of a blackout....carry a small flashlight.
