I've heard Rosie O'Donnell say that on the View.

I believe genetics can predispose people to being fat, but we don't have to be fat just because we have fat genes...those people (I'm one of them) may just have to work harder to stay at a more fit size.

Using genetics as an excuse for being fat, is just a copout really. Most people could be fit if they were willing to put forth the effort and put down the fork (and I LOVE junk food so I know it's tough!)

In my opinion, no. Certain disorders reguarding cholesterol, diabetes, and throid problems are. Even your body shape is usually that of your mother's or fathers. We are eating the same thing as our family so I could see how that could be a possibility. If you and I lived in the same house and ate the same foods at the same time, had similar routines, we might weigh about the same. However, if you start going to the gym, eating different foods than me and started being more concious of how you were treating your body, your body would change where as mine would continue to look the same. In short, it's only genetic because we live in the same household and usually follow similar lifestyle patterns. Usually around puberty your number of fat cells in your body is set, so they can shrink or increase in size but you can't change the number of fat cells in your body.

I hate to say this but most fat people do say that. I was overweight most of my life and have alot of fat people in my family. I've lost 30 lbs and plan on losing some more weight. I think it's all just an excuse to justify being lazy or not eating right.

I would say no.
Now your body build would be.

My mom is really skinny, but her legs will never look like a supermodels, more of a tree trunk style and unfortunately so are mine!

I gained weight because of pregnancy and stayed "fat" for a few years, I am losing it now, but it has nothing to do with genetics in my opinion.

How many "fat" people do you know that exercise and eat healthy and are still "fat" just because their family is??

I wouldn't say 90%, but it can be genetic to a degree. However, even genetics aren't set in stone and diet/exercise can increase the chances of beating genes.

with all of the growth hormones fed to cows, chickens, pigs, and all of the man-made chemicals in processed foods and genetics used in fruits and vegetables, all this ''crap''gets into our bodies and messes up the bodies natural chemical balance, hence all the new diseases and disorders, and obesity.
