have been looking at british weather for last 30 years, and i disagree about this global warming, i think it is a case of people scare mongering, getting their ideas from certain facts without looking at other alternatives, abit like evolution, this is still only a theory, yet they all act if it is fact, when it is nothing of the sort. i repeat it is only a theory, not fact, some scientists are coming out now saying evolution is wrong. what do you say.

Global warming and cooling has been happening for millions of years. I don't believe it's anything to do with carbon emissions and stuff. Just an excuse to raise taxes. Again.

You been looking at the British weather yet failed to notice that this April was the hottest on record?? Hard scientific evidence clearly states that we are causing the increases in climate change......just as an educational tool, watch an "inconvinient truth" by Al Gore. It should make you think and then after that actually take some time to read into climate change and you will discover that we are to blame. Yes the planet has warmed and cooled over the millions of years but it has never had to undergo what is happening today, what with the billions of tonnes of carbon being thrown into our atmosphere from the overuse of fossil fuels. When the polar icecaps melt and millions of square miles of land and homes are underwater, (which will happen in most of our lifetimes) people may start to wish they'd acted differently. And is it right that millions of different species (including humans) have to suffer because of mans greed??

All scientific theories are just that, theories. Nothing can be proved as an absolute truth. Science is about attempts to disprove theories and some take a lot longer to be disproved (like centuries) and we take them as being the best possible match to reality that we can get. Good theories are those that are open to disproof in various ways, stimulate lots of interesting research and take time to test fully.

The earth as a whole is getting warmer. That doesn't mean that the UK is getting warmer. In fact, the biggest fear is that global warming may cause the Gulf Stream to reverse which would mean life would get much colder here.

As science can never say that anything is an absolute fact, we have to act on our best understandings. Since almost all relevant scientists in the world support the global warming hypothesis, it seems reasonable to act now to prevent more damage than is unavoidable. If it's eventually disproved, well and good. If not, at least we have a chance to ameliorate the worst impact.

Global warming leads to increased evapouration from the seas and oceans which leads to increased rainfall and other forms of precipitation - scientists have been warming about this for over 100 years.

There is virtually no doubt that the climate is changing in the UK. The floods that struck in 2001 had a return period of 750 years, the 2003 floods has a return period of 300 years, the current floods will have a return period of perhaps 2500 years - maybe a lot more. The odds of this happening purely as natural phenomenum come in at a little over 20 million to one.

The weather these last few days has been exceptionally wet, although the month isn't yet finished it's already the wettest June on record (going from memory we're now at 263mm of rain, the previous record was 226mm and records stretch back to 1882).

It's worth keeping in perspective - do you remember the winter we had. Of course not, we didn't have one. It was in fact the warmest winter on record (records date back to 1659) and although this week is cold, the year so far has been the hottest on record. Remember all the droughts last year and the hosepipe bans, remember the record breaking high temperatures shortly before that which killed thousands of people. Remember the hurricanes of a few months ago that killed all those people, the tornadoes in London and Birmingham, the devastation in Boscastle. These are all things that should happen perhaps once a century, they've all happened in the last 3 or 4 years.

Global warming isn't the sole cause of all these extreme weather events but it's safe to say that it's contributing and making some of these adverse weather events more extreme than they would have been otherwise.

I think we are in a warming trend. We have been since the end of the last Ice Age. How long it will take Mother Nature to change her mind and start cooling things down again, who knows? Mankind is only one factor in what is causing the warming.

The fear mongers point to our using carbon base fuels as the whole problem. I don't think this is correct. Scientists have found out the polar caps on Mars and Neptune are shrinking too. I don't think there is even anyone on Mars and Neptune to use carbon base fuels. So what is causing that?

*LOL* Scientists have a theory about everything. They aren't willing to say they 'know' anything.

lol, yes this summer has been really cr*p so far however its still early days, don't forget april was a fantastic month in the uk. At the moment we are getting flash floods across northern england which is abnormal. We could easily still have a very hot summer with two months to go, besides we often get an 'indian summer' don't we.

however i am not 100% convinced with the global warming theory but evolution seems to be fairly credible and the only one offering an answer.

i say you should read some of the thousands of answers that already have been given on this question
and i have been sitting in 45 degrees celcius for the last 2 months

In Chiapas people have died of Global warming
last year it was in India ,and the year before that in france
In Africa also many have died because of global warming ,but i am sure their ghosts will be relieved by your views

And Everybody knows by now
that Neanderthaler ,Cro magnum .homo erectus etc lived at the same time so where is the evolution that is suposed to have millions of years between evolvements

they were genetic experiments of the Anunaki,we were the end result ,the reptilian brain in our heads is a siouvnir of Anunaki genetics

We were created as a slave race ,a whole race ,not just an Adam And an Eve ,that was a symbolic story to apease the dumb slaves whose brains where only partly under their own control

And it appears today there are still many under the illuminaties control ,

Are you????????

Because it is those who doggedly disagree with global warming ,because it was not written in the bible and God is supposed to be in charge .so man cannot be to blame

Or maybe you are an industrialists ,they don't like to admit it because then they would have to change many things and this costs a lot of money

Also Governments don't like it ,because it undermines their stability in the end ,because their are no solutions to mass displacement of people
as there is nowhere to take them to ,
neither is the enough food or water for large crowds on the move .-

And that is why religions are becoming more intense ,because the best solution would appear to prepare people to accept death when it comes with out panicking too much.

Did you know that ExxonMobil and other companies have offered substantial amounts to anyone who can prove that global warming is not happening? But there are no valid scientific experiments refuting the theory that human activities are contributing to global warming. There are only a few skeptics who doubt the many, many experiments that have been done. If there were valid experimental evidence on the other side, it would be published in a reputable scientific journal. But there is NONE.

Global warming is most likely a natural phenomenon. Temperatures were as high as they are now in the 12th and 13th centuries. What we need to do is not worry about reversing the climate change, but creating and sharing technologies that will deal with the consequences of the climate change, such as devastating weather.

You give them too much credit. It does not even rise to the level of scientific theory. It is a loose and constantly changing set of hypotheses. For one thing, expect the warming moniker to be abandoned and history revised soon to reflect that it's climate change that they have really been talking about all these years. Whereas they had the Greenhouse effect to blame for warming, they have not as yet decided what process they want to blame for whatever climate the Earth dishes out.
