Belina - Umm, what? I don't know how you deduced that from my question.

Oops. Scratch the comment above. I need to spend more time in reading comprehension and less in science.

There should be many moments of science, preferably at least once per day for a good hour.

A moment of silence might be a good way to start the day off. A lot of people here are saying no because they automatically link it with prayer and don't want any part of that. But what's wrong with starting class off with a deep breath and a sigh? Some kids might pray, some might not. Either way, a lot of teachers would probably feel a few seconds of quiet would set the class off on a good momentum.

Why have a moment of silence? To allow kids to pray if they want?

Why do they need to pray at school? Did they forget to pray at home? Is their prayer so urget it can not wait until recess or when they go home.

The only reason is to exert peer pressure on their fellow students. If they have some other 'genuine' reason, then they can ask to be excused and go do it privately.

I would prefer a whole class of science rather than just a moment.

Nothing at all. School is a place to learn facts, proven facts; a moment of silence is to be done on a students' own time, outside of class. And a moment of science will just make a lot of people mad, because, people like to get pissy when facts are taught outside of the curriculum.

Back here in the UK outside of Religion based schools, we don't have moments for silence except for rememberance, but even religion based schools only tend to take time for prayer during school assemblies.

But I've also had teachers who refused to stop everything, ex-army and such who didn't like it, they felt we should be doing something instead of just sitting there.

Neither should be given. Public schools are there for all, but being funded by the government, should keep a separation of church and state, or belief and state.

I believe in God, but our nation was founded on this separation, so we wouldn't become like the countries that we came from.

In the same turn children shouldn't be forced to listen to a theory that we evolved from something else as if it was fact.

Both evolution and creation are, in science terms, theories. So if you teach one, you should have to teach the other. So if you believe in science you can't say that everything is 100% sure. Scientific Method states there are is no 100% on anything.

They should have a Moment of Silence. This time can accommodate everyone's beliefs. .or if the person has no belief at all than this time can just be a short moment to think/relax. We already have a "moment of science" its called the science class.

A moment of silence is good I think- however to be honest with you- a Christian who really wants to pray for a few minutes during the school day, can find time. It does not have to be mandatory. A prayer going up anytime God hears, even it is just a few seconds.

A moment of silence is fine. A moment of science will not teach much.
