There were some bad worldly popes, especially at the end of the medival Ages, and during the 16C. The worldly political power they had at that time was a corrupting influence, imo. But the recent popes seem to have been decent people; a few of their policies do look odd to non-catholics, because they tend to take very firm positions on various issues,

Christ is God's way of providing atonement so that we can be completely accepted by Him, effective for those who believe on Him. Catholics teach that like the other christian denominations; they differ in some ways, but not on the salvation fundamentals I think. The Pope is perhaps given too much status by some catholics.

Christianity is a religion to worship the one true God.

All popes have been human beings with all the weaknesses we have and many more temptations than we have.

A few popes seem to have been bad men but the majority seem to have been very good men.

Simon Peter, the first pope, denied Jesus three times. Does this make him a bad man? Remember Jesus forgave him.

With love in Christ.

You are talking about a couple of different things.

A pope may be a bad pope. Popes are from Roman Catholicism, and not Christianity in itself.

I saw a 1930's photograph of the Pope's chauffeur kneeling on a gravel path while he held the car door open for his eminence. How does that compare with the behaviour of Christ and the values He taught ? Looks like false religion to me. No wonder they don't encourage the punters to study The Bible.....

I struggle with the question of whether the pope is a bad man. He did have a good upbringing, the Hitler Youth exemplifies many of the standards that today's conservates would wish to preserve.
Can we criticise him for his lavish vatican quarters? I mean, he is a German and, when he was young, it was a German tradition to move in and occupy former Polish territory as quickly as possible.

I can see how much you have bothered to learn about the topic since you equate the Pope with Chritianity at large. There's an awful lot of Christians out there with no affiliation to that guy.

There's a lot of evil that's done in the name of christians like homophobia and racism and wars. I do think that christianity is losing it's way. I definitely think that this pope and his predecessor are evil as they promote hatreds whilst protecting peados

A Lot of bad things have happened because of Christianity, crusades, taxes to go to heaven, manipulation. Because of these i consider myself non-denominational. However i wouldn't say that Christianity is false nor the pope a bad man. I can see where people can argue this but in the end, the purpose of religion is to give people good morals to live there lifes by. Millions of children are taught to love thy neighbour and to treat others as you may treat yourself and this is because of Christianity's influences on society. I believe there is still enough good left in the religion to have a chance to redeem itself in the future, and hopefully that day is soon.
