Seing that the 4th of july this year, will fall on Wed, the middle of the week, will the Government agencies be claiming only Wed. or with they also be taking a friday or monday to boot.

just wanting to know where our Tax money is going to go, or will we all be loosing out for the Fed, State and locals governments to get even another holiday payday off again.
Why don't we have either the non government workers all get as many holidays off as the Federal, States, and local governments, or will the government agencies, look to cut back and save our country Billions and billions of Dollars a Year, by cutting back the amount of these Holidays they come up with to take off.

If you had a business that was doing badly, would you ignore it and not work harder time waise to get your business better and save it, or would you take the extra time to get the jobs out and make better customers and get that job done to better your work again and make more money?

Most federal, state and local government workers have a collective bargaining agreement that determines what holidays are to be observed. Some allow those to be adjusted each year to account for which day of the seek a holiday falls on. Generally the employee gets the same number of paid holidays each year regardless of how they are used.

Workers will get one day of holiday off with pay. Many holidays are celebrated on Monday for government workers - 4th of July is one that stays on the actual day. No, they don't get BOTH the 4th and also a Monday or Friday.

Non-government companies each decide how many holidays their employees will get. Some have as many as the government operations, some don't, and some get more. There are 10 federal holidays - see http://www.opm.gov/fedhol/2007.asp

That's not an unusual number for companies to offer also. In many cases some of them are different though - many companies have paid holidays for Christmas eve, New Year's eve and the day after Thanksgiving (or a floating holiday that each employee can take when they want to) instead of some of the federal holidays.

I work for state government and we only get Wednesday off.
Yes, it's also a paid holiday. And we usually only get 8/9 , depending on what day the holiday falls, paid.
I don't know why everybody thinks that we get every freakin' day off or we just make up holidays!
In our state government, we earn hours off. The amount of time we earn depends on how many years of service we have. Every pay period we receive, say 4.75 hrs., for sick and vacation time. We also can only accumulate a maximum amount of vacation time, also dependent upon years of service. Once we have an overage, we must transfer those hours to our sick time or lose it. Our sick time has unlimited accumulative hours.
Maybe that's why you feel so 'bummed' when you see all these state workers not at work. Some of us actually earned it! However, I will admit there are some that abuse it; but doesn't that happen everywhere, regardless?

Yes. most govt. employees are off on the 4th Many who have accrued annual leave will take and extra day or two.. Law enforcement officers are the exception.

Unlike the private sector, where many employees get a 2-week vacation, Government employees have to earn vacation time. the total amount is added up as a specific number of hours per month, the rate determined by how long they have held the job. Sick days are also earned in a similar manner, and if faced with an extended illness, a government employee may use all their accrued sick leave, and then annual leave is used.
