Depends on who is being smacked. Why is this question in dining out?

Smaking is very rude. Some people are not even aware (?!) that they are. I know a lady who reads the church news and after every sentence, she smacks. Someone recorded her and gave her the tape and made some helpful suggestions. She is better now that she has been made aware.

I find smaking is only in the need when a sexist comment is said. Other wise it's just plain rude. Also, you put this question in the food section for Philadelphia.

I've always been disgusted by this and find it quite rude. I wish people were more considerate of others in many ways. I have no problem with people enjoying a good meal, candy or gum, but there is no need to be so loud as to disturb others in the immediate vicinity.
