I have a fear of rising flood waters, I don't know where it came from, probably my childhood. I cannot imagine what these people are going through. I have tried to visualise 3 ft of water in my living room and it terrifies me. I would love to help them but don't know how.

I agree, we have never lived in an area which is prone to flooding and find it difficult to imagine water in our house. But it is not just the water it is all the dirt and mud it brings with it. Like you, we feel so sorry for those affected.

I`m in a village in S Yorkshire i`m lucky that the water isn`t in my house so far but the next village is chest deep in water and we are all completely cut of theres no access by road at all
i think the people who are saying its a persons own fault for living on low lying land or in a flood area are being mean and petty ,how is anyone supposed to know they live in a flood area if its never flooded before and the poor people in 3rd world countries probably have no choice about where they live .

It isn't so much the level of the water as what is in it that worries me. The diseases are far more likely to cause death than drowning.
But then there is the matter of property, and while in the rich parts of the world there is insurance to cover that, some will lose everything in a flood. Then there are the sentimental things that can never be replaced.
Yes, it is an awful thing to happen.

Yes, and the ones suffering at the hands of the raging fires that are consuming the earth at this current time. When I observe this pain and suffering I know there are tragedies and I ask Jehovah God to please send his angels to be with those ones suffering and to keep them from harm, and help them to endure.

I feel like I am hopeless to help so many in the world today that suffer not just from the floods and out-of-control fires, but the war victims and the needless hunger by men for bloodshed. Yes, men have caused so much pain and suffering for all of human kind yet they still "don't get it". Our world's eco system is severely off balance and due to pollution, global warming, improper use of energy and the list goes on and on, man is causing a great many of the would-be natural disasters for humans.

Don't worry, questioner, Armageddon will be here soon enough and no one will have to suffer, but I wish there was more I could do.

The 2 best organizations for helping people are The Red Cross and The Salvation Army. You could even volenteer to help them out. I was in Hurricane Rita and we saw so much damage. My city looked like a war zone when we came home. We are still in the process of putting on a new roof because it did so much damage to our house. The Red Cross and The Salvation Army were there in our time of need to help us put on a tarp until we were able to rebuild. It took forever and we still aren't done yet but with God's help, it will happen. God bless you. You have a kind heart

I live in Sheffield which has been hit quite bad. I'm fortunate enough to live in part of the city which has not been badly affected but there are parts of the city which are under water, Hillsborough Football ground is compltely flooded. My concerns are more with the family's of the 2 poor people that have died as a result of these floods and also the family of the man in Hull that died in the flood.

It has been the wettest month in Yorkshire in history, and apparently July is forecast to be wet also.

I feel sorry for people that get flooded unless they live in areas that are prone to flooding, in which case I'm thinking they should have been smart enough to move after the last time.

It's so sad, but what I cannot understand is why they stay in the same place and not move to higher ground. Flood will take me by surprise the first time, but not anymore....

The fact that I have an insurance policy minimises my personal fears but I do feel sorry for elderly people who have to endure it.

it certainly does, and I have no fear of water!

it's not just the material things they are losing but things like photos etc that can never be replaced not matter the amount of insurance payout or collection fund.
