well think that Bob Dylan put it best. You have to serve somebody.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
It may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

which comes directly from Jesus teaching in John chapter 8

14 15 Jesus then said to those Jews who believed in him, "If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples,
32
and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
33
They answered him, "We are descendants of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. 16 How can you say, 'You will become free'?"
34
Jesus answered them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.
35
A slave does not remain in a household forever, but a son 17 always remains.
36
So if a son frees you, then you will truly be free.
37
I know that you are descendants of Abraham. But you are trying to kill me, because my word has no room among you.
38
18 I tell you what I have seen in the Father's presence; then do what you have heard from the Father."

have a friend that talks about two dogs that he had. the first dog he had would get out roam the neibhor hood and disappear hours at a time. the dog would not listen in the house. so he brought the dog to obdience school but the dog refused to listen. so the man had no choice to put a leash on the dog and buy a cage. he got aNOTHER dog who listen to his owner , never wandered away from him or his family. had the full run of the house.matter of fact that dog was treated as part of the family. know would like to ask the question what dog was truley free? the dog that disobeyed and had to be caged and chained up or the dog that listened and had the run of the house.

Source(s):

God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." - James 4:6-10

Slave isn't really a good word to use because the idea that comes to everyone is that of the African-Americans being property in the Southern U.S. years ago. However, Christians believe we exist to serve and worship God, so according to your definition - yes, I suppose we are slaves. It's just not a good word to use because it provides a false sense of the religion and lifestyle.

They own you. You can't work for anyone else without their permission.

John Lennon, in the 1970s when he went into exile, once made a comment that FOR THE FIRST TIME since 1962 HE WASN'T OBLIGATED TO MAKE RECORDS FOR ANYONE

Religious or not we are ALL "slaves." We are slaves to our GOVERNMENT and slaves to our employers.....This is not confined to any religious persuasion by any stretch of the imagination.
Serving God, is different than being a slave. You make a wilful choice.
Unlike the government, you conform or wind up locked up ...
Do YOU think it's OK to be a slave??

Undoubtedly, God knows what they keep secret and what they disclose. Surely, He loves not the proud.

And whatever is in the heavens and whatever creature is in the earth submits humbly to Allah, and the angels too, and they are not proud.

Yes, they really do think an eternity of subservience and adoration of their deity is desirable.

I just don't understand this.
