My friend is getting married in two weeks, and they don't have a wedding registry. I'd like to get them something practical, but what should I get?

Obviously, this is their way of saying "give us money." I bet the bridal party has also been instructed to "let guests know" that money is their preference if they ask.

You can always accommodate them and include a check in your card, or a gift card to somewhere like Macy's, Bed Bath & Beyond, or Home Depot. (In my personal opinion, I think couples SHOULD register to avoid situations like this...It's nice to at least give guests an idea of what you like, even if it's not what your guests choose to purchase.)

I also realize that customs vary around the country, and in some places, money is rarely (if ever) given. If you're looking for gift ideas, you can always get them something personal - some nice wine & wine glasses, picture frames, or have their wedding invite framed....

If you're ambitious, take as many pictures of the ceremony as you possibly can - the flowers, the attendants, the bride's entrance, the groom's reaction, the vows, the kiss, etc. Have them processed in a 1 hour lab, and assemble a small photo album to take to the reception that evening (or even the next day!) A friend of my mother's did this for us - she bought us one of those frames that doubles as a photo album - and it was SOO cool to see the photos so quickly!

Money or a gift card. I would prefer money. I have a wedding coming up in two weeks and we didn't register because we have been living together for 5 years and don't really need anything, we just want money to pay for the wedding.

The best thing to give is a gift card to Target or Walmart that way they can get whatever they need after the wedding.

Gift card or check.

Sometimes people do not register because they do not need much or they need more time to choose what they need. Planning a wedding is time consuming.

Make it easy for yourself and them, but write a thoughtful note on the card.

Either cash or a gift card - if they own a home, go with Lowe's or Home Depot, if they're just starting out, go with Bed Bath & Beyond or Linens and Things, or Macy's or Walmart. (Or even a local grocery store - I had a friend who thought that was the GREATEST gift card - she used it to stock her kitchen from the bottom on up.)

This way, you don't have the risk of duplication, and your gift won't go to waste.

A gift card to Linens 'N' Things or Bed, Bath and Beyond would be a great gift. Or, a gift cirtificate to a nice restaraunt for a night out.

Chances are the didn't register because they just want money and don't need house ware type stuff. It was nice of them to not specify money. If you don't want to just slip some cash in a card a target gift card is VERY practical.

Good luck and best wishes!

Give them green--money that is-- or a gift certificate to some store they may shop at to buy what they need most. This is a practical gift that is accepted by most cultures.
