One way, if they are lazy they would look at it and sniff it and maybe maybe eat it. But if they are hyper they would play around with it.

my dog and anything that is NOT a familiar sight, has 1/10 of a second to either get out or literally be 'drawn and quartered" "he either, chases it OR KILLS IT!! mostly the ladder!, it really depends on the dogs attitude! mine hates anything strange, human, animal of any kind wiggling crawling and flying. and takes great delight in chasing people over the fence, score: dog 4 human intruders 0 of which 2 were cops, did not get in trouble, thought my other dog was there, it would treat anything and anyone as adear friend! it had NEVER bitten anyone, would carry tiny babies around and literally, be babysitting ;doggy style" so it's the dogs character that dictates how they react to things

1 of my dogs would just pounce on it and would eat it..
the other one would 1st observe it and check if its a toy before either tasting it or tossing it away..
dogs react differently to insects..most usually try to eat it..
