My company has another company claiming we owe them money and has sent us to collections. Is there a form or number I can call to dispute the claim? I tried calling Experian, Equifax and TransUnion and have hit dead ends. Can anyone make a suggestion on how to dispute this? Should I just put a fraud claim into the credit agencies? Help Please! Thank You!

This company claims that we agreed to recieve a 6 page booklet and is charging $236. We have argued with them for months stating that no one in their right mind would pay $236 for 6 pages of information. They have not been able to prove anything yet they still have sent the charge to a collection agency.

I'm a bit discouraged at L-Boogie's answer....and this comes from a "professional" credit couselor???

Credit bureaus only follow the law. But they are also under a lot of preasure to put correct information on your report. Therefore, if they do not follow the procedures they can also be brought into a lawsuit for trashing your credit history.

Follow the same procedures as any consumer would do. I posted a great site I found that has a flowchart and sample letters. Just follow this information and you should be able to resolve it.

Remember, it's up to the creditor to prove you owe them money....NOT the other way around. No contract,... no proof! If they can't prove this debt but still post it to your credit reports, sue them in small claims court. It's simple to do, you don't need a lawyer. If you follow the procedure you will easily win.

Calling the CRAs will not get you far...they basically have an automated loop that takes you everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
If you have a copy of the credit report, there should be a number on the report for the collection agency and or the original creditor. Start there. The CRAs are not responsible for helping you dispute information. They only report what is told to them. You would have to resolve the issue with the companies first; get proof that the matter is taken care of and send that proof to the credit bureaus. Then they will update their records accordingly. Your best bet would be to send a letter and ask them to update your report in writing.
Good luck!

If they claimed your company owed them money, don't they have to have some kind of document indicates that were your company's charges. Ask them for the receipt, date of service etc.. or call the credit card company, they do have those information and will be able to provide you.

Your question is not clear whether the company claimed they owed you them money or why is that has anything to do with 3 credit agencies?. Shouldn't you dispute with the credit card company first of why the credit card company didn't pay those charges on your behalf ?

Before they sent you to collection agency, they have to repeatedly call you to collect the money. Perhaps you just ignored them until now you realize that you have to pay. They don't just send an account to collection agency the first time they call you. They'll loose the money if they do so. Some information is missing here.

If the case of identify theft then you'll still be able to dispute with the credit card company and they'll investigate it.

I just went through this .. a company which I won't name let a man (i am a female) make a $2000 charge on my account and they shipped product to a state I never lived in, this happened about 5 years ago. I never knew about it until about 2 months ago. I filled out for a loan and was told no because I had bad debt against me. I had no clue. I contacted Equifax for my credit report and the bad debt showed up and an address that I never used showed. In trying to get the address removed, they told me that it was linked to the bad debt. They helped all they could but could not get the company to remove it. I contacted the company myself and had to go to the sheriff's office and fill out an identity theft report and affidavit and fax all of that to the company. I just got notified last week that they removed the debt from my name and the address has been removed. Everyone was fairly helpful... but the credit reporting companies hands was tied. They can only report what is reported to them.

This credit repair kit has the best dispute letters. Usually companies charge hundreds of dollars to simply pull your credit and send correctly worded dispute letters—this is the key…..people will tell you that you can do this yourself for free but the truth of the matter is that the credit bureaus will throw your letters away or simply reject them. There is an easy to use online kit that will deliver the results you want available for just $19.95 at the source website. A similar kit is being sold via infomercials and radio talk shows for seventy dollars more but they try to solicit you repeatedly for other services after the fact.

the best and quickest way to remedy this is to send a dispute letter to all the credit bureas. when you send this letter the burden of proof then lies with the company reporting it. they have 30 days to prove it, if they dont the law says the bureas must delete it immediately, and if it is verified then they must send u info on how they verified, such as who they contacted
