You'll need a bit of background info first. As a result of being raised by an abusive mother (physical, emotional, vebal), I had gotten to the point where I would talk back to her - but that's as bad as I got. I went to school, got A's & B's (took college prep courses), never got into trouble at school, worked part time, was in band, choir, drill team, and was always where I was supposed to be when I was supposed to be there. I did drink - and my mom knew this because she gave me alcohol or let her boyfriends buy it for me.

When I was 16, I started dating a guy I worked with at the movie theater. He was two years older than me. He was also 6'8" tall. We were going with some friends after work one night to get something to eat, but I wanted to go home & change my clothes first. I invited him in - I had been dating him all of a week and this was the first time he was going to meet my mom. She had been drinking, and the FIRST thing she said to him was "If you get her pregnant, she's living with YOU!" She wasn't kidding. I wanted to DIE! Just because she slept around didn't mean I did! I had no intentions of living the kind of life she was living! (Thus the college prep courses and the part time job!)

I'm pretty sure the most embarrassing thing I have done to my own children would be when I used to pick them up from the skating rink on Saturday nights with my car windows down and my 70's music blaring while I'd sing along at the top of my lungs! LOL!

I was talking to them about school when I was in the first grade. I told them that "SOMETIMES", it seems that the teacher does not call on me to answer questions. At the conference, she told the teacher that I said that she "NEVER" calls on me. That was so embarrassing - it made the teacher think that I lied or that I hated her!

Parents need to pay more attention to what their child is really saying instead of coming up with their own fake ideas!
