You will need an anti virus program, but it doesn't have to be Norton. You can download either AVG or Avast. both are free, and both work as well as the software that you pay for. The difference is that these are just anti virus programs and don't have all of the bells and whistles that the big boy have, so they don't slow down your system.

You certainly need something to give you virus protection at the least, but there's no need to buy Norton. Try either AVG or Avast for anti-virus, Ad-Aware SE personal for anti-malware, and CCleaner for a tidy-up program. They're all free to download.

you always need a virus software, the only thing that comes with Vista is a security set that keeps intruders from hacking into your pc from a wireless source. Norton has a trial version that is good for 30 days...after the 30 days is up you can go to AVG and use that for 30 days....after that you can go to Cyberdefender and after that....well you get the message.

oh yes very much so vista is c""p so be aware a child with a early learning toy computer could put a virus on vista

Either of the free versions of Avast or AVG are good, I use them both in different computers and I am very happy with both of them, and you can always buy the professional versions if you need more protection later.
