If you were to go somewhere like a wedding, party, etc and you brought your young child and the host of the event offered to put the child to bed herself when it got late. would you do that? i think if your child did not care it would be fine.

I would think that it was a hint that the host thought the child SHOULD be in bed and the parent wasn't doing their job. Either the child was annoying or the party was getting to a level they didn't feel a child should be around....Otherwise it would depend on the age. If they are under 4, no way, especially in a strange place they would need the parents reassurance. Over 5 I would say if they were with a group of other kids and the host was going to show all the kids were "to crash" that would be acceptable. Also under this assumption I would say nix the hint idea from above.

Well maybe you should check the time at the party and make your arrangements prior to attending.
The last thing you want is someone putting your child to bed because the mum's having too much fun. Doesn't reflect well on our characters.
Next time ask the host where you can put the child down to sleep when its time , and reassure and tuck your child in. Keep checking on them; Remember it's a party; Any Tom, Dick or Harry can have access to your kids.

Funny, I figured you must be a dad. My husband would think this is completely fine but I would never impose that on a host. I would either put the child to bed myself and/or decide that it was time to leave the event.

Next time, I'd arrange for a sitter, but I know that sometimes plans change.

Are you the host? I think that if you want to show the parent where to put the child to bed, that would be ok. But not to take the child yourself.

They are just trying to make you comfortable but what you have to realise is that your children are your responsibility, if anything happens you will be blamed for negligence and worse still you will blame yourself.

The best thing to do is to put them to bed yourself and if it is not in your own home then make sure the windows are locked and you check on them regularly and are very closeby.

If you are friends with the host and know their history with children then I see no problem. If it is someone you don't know very well and can trust, NO WAY!! You can never tell by looking at someone if they are a pedophile or abuser.

I don't see a problem with it either. As long as the child would be ok with it....
