I'm 20 and i have one year of school under my belt. I took a year off and worked full time. I'm at a point where I don't want to keep looking for a job but don't want to keep going to school either. I want to work in the medical field and I think the navy is my best choice for that. Can you go in as an officer with a two year degree or does it matter and if so, should I finish my two year Associates in Arts degree or just go in now? Does the type of degree matter?

Officers must have a 4 year degree. doctors must have their MD and completed residency as well.

Frankly, the degree does matter. Of course if you want to be picked up for the Medical community, you must have the related degree, in fact even if you just want to go in as a counselor or social worker, you need at least a masters, and preferably the Doctorate. if you were lookingat just plain Officer communtites, you need a 3.5 or higher GPA ina strong technical or science major to even have a decent shot.

if you are thinking of going enlisted, you are most likely NOT going to be able to choose HM as a female. It is pretty much closed to females at this time, and will be for the forseeable future.

if you want medical, go Army.

Sorry, you need at least a 4 year BA or BS degree in an approved field to be commissioned into the Navy. You CAN enlist in the Navy and ask for the job rating of HM, Hospital Corpsman. That is the Navy's medical rating and you would be able to work in all areas of the medical field. If you want to keep going to school while on active duty the Navy will pay for your tutition as long as you pass your classes. Sounds like you are at a point in your life where you want an need a change. The Navy is perfect for that and will help you get to the life you really want either by staying on active duty or by giving you some job skills to get out and make it on your own.

You cannot go into the Navy as an officer with an AA degree. You have to have a BA and complete OCS. But if you go enlisted first you can become an officer later. You should talk to your recruiter about this. My husband is in the Army and i know that with a AA you can go in as a E-4, but i dont know if that is the same with the Navy.
