The mind is the functional part of the soul concerned with rational processes, memory, reason, projection, and above all consciousness. Consciousness is the chief function of the mind, awareness and reflection. It can be heightened by mental discipline, especially, but not exclusively meditation, awakening and opening the " third eye". In the west we tend to identify the mind with the brain, but that is perhaps too narrow and restrictive an understanding. Are not all the senses expressive of what we call mind, why restrict this to an organ which is little more than a nexus in our nervous system?

Consciousness is the combination of body awareness, The sense-organs , and the vital-breath. Mind has no true existence of it's own. It would seem to be the awareness of all the thoughts that ever were, are now, and ever will be. If we aren't AWARE that thoughts are recieved by the brain, we ,as consciousness, identify with the thoughts as ourself. We really are the AWARENESS of the thoughts as well as the consciousness. The Eastern teaching is NETI-NETI, Not this, Not that.

Consciousness is a function of your brain that allows you to analyze situations and make decisions based on what you observe. It is not supernatural in any sense.

Your mind *is* your brain, or rather your mind is what your brain *does*.

An animal has a mind.

What it doesn't do is look into the mirror when it grooms itself and get things just perfect.

What it doesn't do is pass judgement. It doesn't shun another because of color or size or how ragged it might look.
