I'm confused about what religion is best for me and my belief. I'm not big on churches or groups. But I would like to study a religion.

I have studied most all religions (mainstream). I have come to believe in the God of the bible and Jesus as the Christ who died for our sins.
I would suggest reading the new testament of the bible.
The bible itself is a historical book that is used by archaeologists. There is prophecy that has come true hundreds of times over. There are over 300 alone about the man Jesus.
There have been non christian sources telling of the man Jesus so we know he was here. Even well read atheists know this.
Was he a nut, a liar or the son of the living God?
Read and find out.

Taoism is one of the oldest religions and one of the most simple. It is the basis of Buddhism and far more understanding than Christianity, Islam or Judiaism.
Books are Tao Te Ching by Lao Tsu
and Tao The Pathless Path by Osho

I challenge you in all your studies look at the Bible. If you are willing to test things for truth include this, not Churchianity.

If you read something test it and try it and see what happens. The key here is you and your heart. The results are in God's hands!

Church of the Subgenious would be a good start. Follow that with something by the Discordians.
After those two you will be ready for anything.

Find the NIV translation of the Bible...
Read, mark, learn and inwardly digest.

It's the highest of the Higher Powers, IMO.

Pick up a copy of Zaehner's "Encyclopedia of the World's Religions." That should give you a nice broad survey

Study Buddhism. It doesn't require a group or church. Plus, it is a fairly easy religion to follow: do good, and you will further your path to enlightenment. Do bad, and you will only hinder yourself.

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Christianity is the one truth. If you seek with an honest heart thats where you will find the absolute truth. I'm not trying to be cliche or anything but its the truth. I didnt grow up in the church either. Change my life.
