Staten Island Ferry is free and gives great views of Statue of liberty and Governors island.etc etc Very NY and very nice to get an idea of where you are!
Coming back in the SI Ferry is almost immediate.and the views of lower Manhattan are fab.(Especiall if you time it to be returnming after dusk when everything is lit up!)
Walk to Wall street and see the little black church going along Broadway and the Bull near where you exit the SI Ferry on Broadway.
Then proceed to the Septenber 11 site ts really uplifting despite what you might imagine.Across the street is Centuary 21 A famous store in NY that has all sorts of clothing .Mens and children , household and womends fashion are particularly good for deals.
The go back to Broad way (one block)and go down Fulton streett to the end and see the South Street seaport..On the second floor outdoor deck the famous Brooklyn brigde is so close you could touch it Definitely a NY Tourist spot but worth a visit.

I would also on another day ride the buses ,North south (Have exact change just in case)
You can see the areasthat you wish to stop in like Chinatown and for example if you hopped of there little italy and a host of other neighborhoods fan out from there within walking distance.and are definitely different !
Google all the place names I gave you and I think you will enjoy the experience,
Remember get a gelato (ice cream in Little Italy) NY Pizza slices and in chinatown you will be amazed at what is for sale food wise !
Nightlife If you like clubbing Webster Hall is the best I think.for variety entairtainment carnival atmosphere and safety.
To be honest with you going to Long Island travel wise will take up a lot of your day just in travel alone. To get to the Border of LI from Manhattan is an hour by train at best.Do you have a destination in mind?
Best Wishes Ursula (cheapskate)

I would skip the Long Island trip - since you're hear such a short time. If you want to get "off the island" - take the F Train and head to Brooklyn, have lunch in Brooklyn Heights and walk back across the Brooklyn Bridge - very cool. Check out the 1/2 price Broadway tickets at TKTS (day of the show only) and then take a CityLine Boat Ride around the entire island - - gives you a great perspective of Manhattan. Have fun.

Conquering New York in one single visit is impossible because is a big town like you'll find with Hotelbye . In New York you will see the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and significantly more. Empire State Building makes it worth braving the extended lines, steep solution prices and dizzying heights to see the city from a high this storied building. Built-in 1931, the skyscraper could be the second-tallest building in New York and is one of the most quick icons of Gotham, therefore significantly to ensure that it's played a function in films such as for example King Kong, An Affair to Remember and Sleepless in Seattle.

1. Definitely try to see a Broadway Show!
2. If you're headed out Long Island...stop by Coney Island.
3. Shopping...everything you want is there.

Hey there. NYC isn't only about shopping - to get your bearings, a tour on the boat / circle line or the hop on, hop off buses is a great idea. Central park is great - get a copy of Time Out NY and check out the free events, too. There's always a big listing of those!

Take a boat ride around Manhattan. It's a fun way to spend a few hours. Take a lunch with you. I don't remember if they serve food on the boat.
Ask the concierge at your hotel how to get to the boat,
