I've gone twice deep sea fishing, and only got sea sick once. I think it might be because of the beer? Any Thoughts?

The beer probably contributed. I've fished on the ocean for over 30 years, been seasick once, queasy many times. If it's calm and I'm feeling fine, I'll have a beer or two; if it's bumpy or worse, I'll stick with soft drinks or water.

Basically, to avoid seasickness, live clean: get plenty of rest before the trip, eat mild food before and during the trip, get plenty of fresh air, and if you're thirsty, drink water.

If you start getting queasy, stay outside, away from the engine exhaust, and watch the horizon. (This stabilizes your head, which is where your centers of balance are.) Sitting down and reading or watching TV will only make it worse.

The best distraction is getting into a good bite -- you'll forget about your stomach and just have a good time.

I tried taking motion sickness medicine an hour before boarding ship, and had an upset stomach, I think from the mixture of breakfast and the medicine. Also with taking motion sickness medicine the same day, I had troubles with drowsiness and a very dry mouth. Lately I've found that if I take the medicine the night before, I get a great night's sleep, and I don't have any troubles with sea sickness the next day.

I don't like mixing motion sickness medicine and beer. Beer will definately get you sea sick.

Your taking the sea sickness pills all wrong you have to take one pill the day before you go on the boat and another one an hour before you go on the boat trust me I've been sea sick its the worst feeling of your life and if you still get sick sit down somewhere and put your head down and close your eyes and you feel ok but you have to lie down till you guys reach still water but in the worst case scenario throw up in the bathroom the other passengers will get pisses if you take long though lol just throw up in the bathroom and you'll feel a lot better after that the whole time your on the boat well hope you guys catch a fish but the pills should work If you take em like I said hope you don't get sea sick Tight lines

Ginger Ale. Think some before you step on the boat and while you're on the boat. If you can buy ginger pills or buy some ginger root and eat it. Ginger settles the stomach. Also you could take the proverbial Bonnie's dramamine. And keep your eyes on the horizon. Don't look down or up. Look at the horizon. And whatever you do, don't go inside the cabin to lay down. You'll get even more sick. Stand straight up and stay outdoors.

I go all the time I have got sick a few times but what works for me is take a drammamine 1 hour before getting on the boat and you will be fine. Get this at your local pharmacy. It works for me whenever I take it I never get sick when I forget to is when I have problems just make sure it is one hour before the activity otherwise you will still get sick. good luck and go kill some fish!

Dramamine is good if you don't want to be awake for your trip. That's how that stuff works, it makes you sleep through the sickness.

A more natural course of action is ginger. Eat and drink ginger foods such as ginger ale, ginger tea, ginger snaps, or just get some ginger supplements. They are shown to help without making you sleep.
