Well I dont think any parent would easily say that to their children but I have heard a parent saying " I wish I had not brought you in this world" I am not sure if both mean the same thing.

I actually use this phrase all the time, my kids are old enough to know that it is a joke and have seen bill cosby repeatedly and know the source, however i would never use that phrase in a fit of rage!
My mom also gave me the curse of "I hope you have a dozen kids just like you" I always remind her that i ended the curse by having a tubal done after the third.
A joke is a joke and you just need to make sure the other party knows it as a joke so no feelers are broken
............Bill Cosby rules, my fav is "push it out, shove it out, waaaay out!"

Goodness people even my children know a joke when they hear one. If you say that to your kids and they actually believe you would take them out then you need a better relationship with your children. My children also know I'd never make them walk home, return them to the hospital or even make another just like them. They understand humor and know when someone is joking. The only way they would wonder if I was beating them as I said it.....which obviously has never happened or they wouldn't giggle at the thought of being returned to the hospital.

Yes, I think it was first said by Bill Cosby on the Cosby Show back in the 80's/90's.

Yes I have stated this to my own young ones(also the not so young) It is an empty threat. This is un like the one where we can not longer stand the youngsters fighting in the car .... and you tell them to get out and walk the rest of the way (300+ miles Home.) Scares them and scares me..... Would it be okay to "take you out " !

Bill Cosby made it very famous in his stand up routine in the mid to late 70's...then revived it in his hit 80's TV show.

I have heard Moms say that and it makes me cringe. What they are saying is since they brought you into the world they can kill you if you don't do what they say-horrible thing to say to a child who looks up to you.

Yeah, it actually came off the Bill Cosby show. That was his line to one of the kids on the show. I think it was the guy the played his son that he said it to.
