Read the second paragraph of your cite:

"This goes against the views of the vast majority of scientists who believe the rise in the earth's temperatures is due to pollution. "

Whether or not this public survey is accurate (others have shown different results), I'll go with the scientists, where, because there is scientific proof, there is a consensus.

The term "consensus" refers to the fact that, based on extensive research and hypothesis testing, scientists in the field have accumulated a sufficient degree of evidence to be certain that global warming is caused by human beings.

It is not a popular opinion poll--and all the polls, biased or not--make zero difference. The facts have been fully establisend and confirmed--and that is the end of the debate.

The survey is one that is being conductged on the internet by AOL and Pocket Guides. Internet surveys are notoriously unreliable as there's no way of knowing who is voting, how many times they vote, whether the voters reflect society or how many voting irregularities there are. For example, if I were to post a link to the survey on a forum for proponents of global warming then the number of 'yes' votes would dramatically increase.

My point is illustrated perfectly when you look at the rest of the survey. Some 83% of respondents beleive that global warming should be takcled by everyone on the planet and not left to governments. How accurate can the survey be when the majority of people vote to take action on something they apparently don't beleive in.

Polls are only reliable when they are conducted in accordance with strict guideleines. This ensures questions are not weighted, an accurate cross section of the population are canvassed and interviews are conducted on a person to person basis to eliminate people 'tipping the system'.

When you look at the results of a world wide survey conducted by a combination of different 13 professional polling organisations around the world then you get a completely different result - 90% of people consider climate change to be a 'serious' or 'very serious' problem.

Note for Philip F: In the second link, the number of people who think climate change is 'not very serious' or 'not at all serious' has fallen from 14% in 2003 to 5% in 2006,

There is no consensus for scientists however since the alarmist can't win in the arena of ideas and facts, they resort to strong arm tactics and intimidation. For example, if you suggest that global warming isn't really bad and man made you aren't going to have a real problem getting funding for research. Consensus is not science. To suggest that the evidence from people "in the field" suggests "global warming" is caused by humans is ignorant of the facts and utter nonsense.

This is not an issue that can be decided by a poll of popular opinion, or even by a vote of scientists. It is a matter of science. That means that if the theory has scientific validity, it will be borne out by events. There was a time when most people thought the sun revolves around the earth. That does not make it so.

Rollo: please inform us when these researchers come up with a THEORY. If you had not noticed, none have ever been claimed. Who is the lead scientist on this thing? Anybody know for sure? What is his hypothesis?

Gotta love this unsubstantiated claim:
"The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which represents most scientists"

So, now it's not just climate modelers, but all scientists.

I'm not sure which is more pathetic. The sad excuse for science promulgated by the IPCC, or the gullible public that swallows it hook, line, and sinker...

Nobody is claiming that there's a consensus among random people who participate in online surveys. The consensus is among climate scientists.

global warming does naturally occur
humans are like a catalyst for it though
it should not be occuring now at the level that it is
