We were having a discussion last night. I was raised catholic, not longer practice, but know a few devout catholics. One woman I know lost a leg in a car accident. To put it bluntly , it is on ice at the hospital morgue and has been for 25 years. When she dies the leg is to be buried with her. She says because it is part of the body that god gave her and she is going to heaven with all those parts. I know another catholic woman that has saved all her placenta's and umbilical cords from childbirth, honest they are in jars of famaldahide. Now , my question. If a catholic donates his eyes to science, will 'god' shun them at the pearly gates or will they be let in to walk around blind or eyeless in heaven for all eternity?

Very disturbing.

The answer is - no. A Christian can denote their organs & still make it in. Organs have nothing to do with ones salvation.

I am in big trouble then because I am an amputee. My leg was cremated. When we die we are absent from the body but present with the Lord. There is no need to go to this extreme with body parts. Our spirit is what go's to Heaven and what condition our body is in has nothing to do with our salvation! I think that saving the placenta's and umbilical cords are a bit extreme! I don't want to be disrespectful of the Catholic faith. I just don't understand their logic. I do know of some one else who was catholic who asked for her granddaughter's leg. I also am an organ donor! I also am a christian!

When we are raised, we are given new bodies.

1 Corintians 15

The Resurrection Body

35But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?" 36How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.

42So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.
If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being"[e]; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. 48As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. 49And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we[f] bear the likeness of the man from heaven.

50I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

when you die, your earthly vessel will decay.. I don't think burying a leg with ya will make any difference.
What matters the most is the condition of the soul....
I don't know of any place in the bible that says we cannot donate organs but saving the placenta is a bit over the top.
When we are in Heaven we will have perfect bodies...
No, God will not shun you if you are saved

No. The people who are shunned at the Great White Throne Judgement (not the same as the judgement seat of Christ, which is for believers only) are those who NEVER accepted Christ as God, Lord and Saviour: if they think that by doing works, or having all their bits from their body and that that will get them entry to heaven, then they're not relying on Christ but on their own (or, equally as bad, another ordinary human's) efforts: they're not trusting Christ to keep His promise. Do you not remember the story Jesus told about casting away from oneself eye, or hand, if it causes you to sin? Then why hang on to bits that have served their usefulness, or if left as part of the body would have left it close to death?

Tell them to trust Christ alone for their salvation: not formaldehyde, nor ice, nor Mary, nor Peter, nor works; just Christ.

May God bless you if you seek His truth.

There is no greater gift to give than to give life and help to heal. It's silly to keep things on ice and in jars. If anything, organ donation could allow a person to enter through the pearly gates.

Good grief!
I know that Catholics have some quite different ideas to protestants, but I do find it very hard to believe that they think they take their body with them to heaven. By that standard you could go around committing mass murder and be fine, but would go to hell if you had your appendix removed.

If you are truly saved, you will receive a new body at the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:51-58)

That's ridiculous.......

God, who is capable of making matter out of nothing and human beings out of dust, certainly knows how to regenerate eyes and limbs! He'll have to recreate Joan of Arc out of ashes. No one will be crippled or disabled in heaven!
